The members 60 extend from Vend to end of the bolsters and are of such width that the rivet-s which secure the Ytop flanges of the diaphragms 54 to the platform plates 44 also secure the members 60 to the intermediate cover plates by engaging in rivet openings in the plate portions 61 and in the flanges of the trough-shape portions of memberstSO.
Where the diaphragms 54 cross the sills 48,
the sills are provided with Hanged arms on brackets 68 which project outwardly from the sills beneath the flanges of the diaphragmsl 54 and are secured thereto by some of the rivets 55 which connect the bottom cover plate 58 to the diaphragms 54. The brackets 68 and the portions of the sills 48 beneath the bottom cover plate 58 together. with the tie plates 69 and members 85 contribute to the strength and rigidity of the bolster structure at the center and are to be regarded as parts ofthe bolster structure. Thus there is produced a bolster of great depth at the middle in which one of its essential elements 44 is tixedly secured to the end sill and for a considerable distance to the side sills of thecar.
The draft sills 48 are substantially channelwith vertical webs and outwardly projecting flanges, the websbeing of less depth at the diaphragms 54V to provide recesses which receive said diaphragms 54 and the bottom cover plates 58. The drafty sills are `formed as part of integral castings each of which also includes a striking plate 62 which connects the outer ends of the draft sills. The draft sills are formed with front and rear stops 64 and 66, respectively, for the draft wear and with the integral flanged arms or )rackets 68 and a laterally extending perforated plate 70 which joins the inner ends of the draft sills 48 and is inclined at the slope of the end slo sheet 26 against which it bears and to w ich it is secured by the rivets 72. The plate 70 is of greater width than the distance between the draft sills 48 and the portions of said plate pro'ecting beyond the sills 48 are braced by ribs 4 while the upper edge of the plate is provided with perforated lugs or ears 7 6 in which is mounted the operating shaft 7 8 for the locking dog 80 of the door operating mechanism. The draft sills 48 are also joined by cross ties 82 and 84 formed integral with the draft sills 48, the cross tie 82 having a horizontal portion to which the cover plate 44 is'secured.- Formed integral with the draft sills 48 adjacent the plate V7 0 are bearings 86 which project from the draft sills 48 and in which is mounted the shaft 88 ofa door operating mechanism 90 such as is shown in Patent No. 1,649,433, Willoughby, November l5, 1927, and as the door operating mechanism forms no part of this invention it is not described in detail here.
It is to be understood that the drawings herein are for illustrative purposes only and that various changes in the form and proportions of the device may be made within the scope of the appended claims without dearting from the spirit of the invention.
That is claimed is:
1. In a hopper car, an integral draft sill casting comprising spaced channel shape sills recessed to receive bolster diaphragms, spaced outwardly projecting arms for attaching to said bolster diaphragms, a plate for engaging the end hopper sheet oining the inner ends of said sills and bearings for the hopper door 0perating mechanism on the sills adjacent said plate.
2. In a hopper car, an integral draft sill casting comprising spaced sills recessed to receive part of bolster, outwardly projecting arms at said recesses for attaching to the bolster part,.a plate for engaging the end hopper sheet joining the inner ends of said sills and lugs on said plate to support a shaft of the door operating mechanism.
3. In a hopper car, an integral draft sill casting comprising spaced sills recessed to receive part of a bolster, outwardly projecting arms at said recesses for attaching to the bolster part, a plate for engaging the end hopper sheet joining the inner ends of said sills, lugs on said plate to support a shaft of the hopper door operating mechanism and bearings on said sills for a second shaft of the door operating mechanism.

In a hopper car, an integral draft sill casting comprising spaced sills recessed to receive bolster diaphragme, outwardly projecting arms at said recesses for attaching to the bolster diaphragms, an inclined plate for engaging the end hopper sheet joining the inner ends of said sills, bearings for shafts of the door operating mechanism on said sills and plate and ties joining said sills at said recesses.
5. In a car, an integral draft sill casting comprising spaced sills recessed to receive a bolster part, a built up bolster resting in said recesses anda platform cover plate secured to said craft sills and extending between sectiens of said bolster.
In a car, an integral draft sill casting comprising spaced sills recessed to receive a bolster, outwardly projecting arms at said recesses and plates connecting the ends of said sills, albuilt up bolster alined with said recesses and attached to said arms and a cover plate secured to said draft sills extending throughout the greater part of the length of said bolster between sections thereof.

In a car having side and end sills, draft sills extending from said end sill and provided wi'th a bolster recess, arms projecting from said draft sills at said recesses, a sectional bolsterezitending through said recess and extending continuously from side sill to side sill, and a cover plate secured to said end and draft sills and extending from side sill l cover plate attached to said end, draft and to side sill between sections ofsaid bolster, said cover plate being secured to said bolster sections and said arms being attached to said bolster. p
8. In a car having side and end sills, draft sills extending from said end sill and recessed to receive"` a bolster, arms projecting from saidsills at said recesses, a sectional bolster extending from side sill to side sill through said recesses and attachedto said arms and a 1 side sills and bolster and extending between sections of said bolster.
