Definitions
- This invention relates to building material and particularly to wall sections or members employed in the construction or erection of the walls of a building; and the object of the invention is to provide wall sections or members molded into predetermined sizes which may constitute stock or standard sizes which are set upon a suitable foundation and arranged side by side and coupled together in the erection of the outer walls and partition walls of a building, and especially to the construction of bungalows or semi-bungalows wherein the wall sections or members extend from the foundation to the beginning of the roof structure except for the wall sections or members employed where the window and door openings are provided therein; a further object being to provide means for coupling and interlocking adjacent wall sections and 2 for slushing in and sealing the adjacent edges of the wall sections to form the complete wall and smooth inner and outer surfaces thereto;

This invention relates to building material and particularly to wall sections or members employed in the construction or erection of the walls of a building; and the object of the invention is to provide wall sections or members molded into predetermined sizes which may constitute stock or standard sizes which are set upon a suitable foundation and arranged side by side and coupled together in the erection of the outer walls and partition walls of a building, and especially to the construction of bungalows or semi-bungalows wherein the wall sections or members extend from the foundation to the beginning of the roof structure except for the wall sections or members employed where the window and door openings are provided therein; a further object being to provide means for coupling and interlocking adjacent wall sections and 2 for slushing in and sealing the adjacent edges of the wall sections to form the complete wall and smooth inner and outer surfaces thereto;
a further object being to provide wall sections of the type specified which are arranged and mounted in pairs, spaced apart to form an air chamber therebetween, one wall section constituting the outer wall and the other the inner wall in each pair, and said sections including heavy reinforcing members extending vertically therethrough as well as horizontal reinforcing members, the latter protruding at the side edges of the sections and being coupled together; a further object being to provide an improved method of constructing the walls and partitions of a building of the type named by the use of my improved building sections; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in building material of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, eificient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a part of two side walls of a building and a partition wall made according to my invention.
Fig. 2 isa sectional View, diagrammatically illustrating the mounting of the walls upon a foundation and the arrangement of the floor and ceiling structure with relation to the walls; and,
Fig. 3 is a cross section through a wall of the building, indicating the manner of coupling adjacent side edges of wall sections together.
In practice, I provide a plurality of wall sections or members 10 which are of a'length equal to the desired height of the main walls of a building and es ecially a building of the bungalow or semi-' ungalow type or what might be simply stated, a one-story structure, such as garages, shops and the like. Each section 10 consists of a body of reinforced concrete of suitable concrete mixture to give the desired strength and rigidity thereto, and the reinforcements consists of vertical and substantially heavy rods 11, the upper ends of which project as seen at 11 to permit of the mounting of a finishing and attachmentor coupling strip 12 on the upper ends of said members, which strip permits of the mounting of the roof structure on said walls, the strip being preferably composed of wood, but may be constructed of metal when a fireproof building is desired.
Other reinforcing rods or wires 13 extend transversely through the sections or members 10 and the ends thereof protrude through beveled edges 10- at opposite sides of said sections. The protruding ends of the wires. are twisted or otherwise coupled together in securing and alining one section with the other in the construction of a wall. The beveled side edges 10* form a V-shaped recess between adjacent edges of the sections 10, and these recesses are filled with a slushing mixture 14 of concrete, cement or the like to seal the bound ends of the reinforcing strands 13 and also to securely join and bind the adjacent sections together when they have been properly lined up.
As seen in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the sections 10 are set upon the upper face of a foundation 15 which may be constructed in any all) desired manner and in forming the outer walls of the building, it is preferred that the sections or members 10 be arranged in pairs, one wall section constituting the outer wall proper of the building, and the other the inner wall with an air space 16 arranged therebetween. The purpose of this air space is to prevent the direct passage of moisture through the walls and also to insulate said walls against excess cool weather as well as excess hot Weather as will be apparent.
The floor beams 17 for supporting the floor 18 of a building are supported on the foundation 15 as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and the ceiling 19 may be supported on the inner wall members or sections 10 and also coupled with the members 12 if desired. The partition Walls 20 arranged for subdividing a building into different compartments are constructed from a single thickness or series of sections 10 instead of the arrangement in pairs, and at 20 in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, I have indicated a part of a partition wall. This wall preferably rests upon the flooring 18 and extends from this flooring to the ceiling structure 19.
In forming door and window openings both in the partition walls and the outer walls, I employ sections or members 21 which are constructed in the same manner as the sections 10 but are wider and of such height opening at'23 in the outer wall, and a door opening 2 in the partition wall, and the sec.- tions 21 may be arranged at the top and bottom of the Walls as will be seen. These sections or wall members are coupled with the other wall members in identically the same manner as the coupling of the sections or members 10. The side edges of the wall members 21 are beveled as seen at 21" similar to the bevels 10 The'upper or protruding ends of the reinforcing rods 11 may be secured or coupled with the member 12 in any desired manner and if desired, the rods of the pairs of wall members may be joined by brace members 25 as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing. It
will also be understood that in forming the corners of a building, specially molded wall sections or members 26 and 27' may be employed, said sections having wall portionsthe foundation to efiect a seal and also to act as a key in preventmg relative movement of the lower ends of said wall members' However, the Weight of the building structure and the wall members it) themselves, with the reinforcements therein resting upon the foundation, will be suificient to maintain the same in proper position especially after the usual finishing facing is mounted thereon. It will I is also true of any other finishing strips or members that are desired in the design or architecture of the building.
It will also be understood that my invention is not limited to the construction or erection of buildings of any specific kind or char acter, nor to the'use of wall members or sections of any particular dimensions. While I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, it will be understood that I am not necessarily limited to these details, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what Patent, is A building wall formed from inner an outer wall sections arranged in spaced rela tion to each other to form a continuous unobstructed passage throughout the entire area of said wall, each of said sections being I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters "of the same thickness throughout the area thereof forming flat inner and outer surfaces on said sections, the side edges of each section being beveled outwardly to form intermediate adjacent wall sections, chambers substantially V-shaped incross sectional form and exposed through the outer surfaces of said inner and outer walls, reinforcing and coupling rods extending transversely through each section at vertically spaced intervals, the ends of said rods projecting through the beveled side edges of said sections, the rods of adjacent sections being in alinement and adapted to be twisted together within said chambers in coupling said sectionstogether to form the wall structure, a slushing compound adapted'to be placed in said chambers to conceal and finish the joints of adjacent wall sections, means for spacing the lower ends of said inner and outer walls, coupling strips arranged upon the upper edges of said said inner and outer walls.
