BUOYAN'I BATHI NG APPLIANCE Filed sept. 4, 1929 v I/WAWMR. Jam-,s M Lox ITTR/VEX Patented May 13, 1930 UNHTED STATES mm@me JAMES W. LoY, or nonsrnnacn, cALIroRNIa BUOYANT BATHING APPLIANCE Application filed September 4, 1929. .Serial No. 390,264.v
This invention relates to'a buoyant bathing appliance whichis particularly advan-.
` tageous when used as a surf board or the like.
An object of my invention is to provide a novel bathing appliance with buoyant memi bers thereonV which are secured to the board'V in a novel and effective manner. v
Another object is to provide a bathing appliance which is stable and'will not readily turn when the bather is riding thereon. v
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, thesubjoined detailed description and the appended claims; I i
of my buoyant the board 1 so that the bather can grip the board and hold himself thereon whenrriding in the surf.
VA pair of stabilizing plates 4.-5 are provided adjacent the rear end of the board 1,
land consists of boards secured to the lower face of the board 1, and these plates extend outwardly and rearwardly at an angle as shown in Figures l and 2. A keel' is lposi-j tioned central of the board 1, and extends longitudinally thereof. g The purpose of this keel is to further assist in stabilizing the appliance, and also to guide it in a straight path; The appliance is buoyed up by a hollow inflated ball 7. This ball is held inpositon on the appliance in the following manner. A hole 8 is cut in the board 1 at the forward end thereof, and this hole is of lesser diam- I A plurality Vofeter than the'ball 7. That is, the ball must be defiated before it can be inserted through the hole 8. VA nettng 9 surrounds the ball 7,V and the nettng is drawn through the hole 8 and is secured to the under ,side of the board l. Thus it will be seen that the ball is held securelyin position and is alsoprotected by the tip of the board 1. Infiatable balls 10-11 are provided adjacent the outer ends of the plates 5-4 respectively and are held in posir 'tion in exactly the same manner as the ball 7.
Having described invention, I claim: j l., A buoyant bathing appliance compris ing aboard formed of a buoyant material, aA pair of 'outwardly extendingV stabilizing plates adjacent the .rear end of said'board, said board having a hole adjacent' the front end thereof, a -netting secured to the board. over said hole and an inflated ball of greater diameter than the hole positioned partly in the hole and heldby the nettng, said plates each havingva hole therein, an inflated ball 'of greater diameter than the last named holes.
and nettng over said last named balls whereby they are :held in position.
2.- A buoyant bathing appliance comprising a board formed of a buoyant material, apair of outwardly extending stabilizing plates adjacent therear end of said board, said board having a hole adjacent the front end thereof, a nettng vsecured to the board over said hole and an inflated ball of greater 'diameter than the hole positioned partly in i the hole and held by the nettng, said plates each having a hole therein,an inflated ball of greater diameter than the last named h-oles and nettng over said last named balls where by they are lheld in position, a 'keel secured to said board and extending longitudinally thereof, and said board having pairs of hand holestherein. i i
3.1 A buoyantbathingappliance comprising a board formed of a buoyant material, ay
keel extending .longitudinally thereof, pairs ofhand ;holes in the'board, said board havl ing a hole adjacent the forward end thereof, an inflated ball of greater diameter than the hole and netting surrounding said ball, and
Lvsaese secured to the board, a pair of outwardlyV eX- tending stabilizing plates adjacent the rear end of the board, each' of said plates having a hole adjacent the outer end thereof, an inflated ball in each of the last named holes,
said balls being of a greater diameter than the holes and netting surrounding the last named balls and secured to said plates.
