Patented May- 13, 1930' GUSTAVFrKRAFT, or-KANsAscrrY, rssounr jdmnivrnrrnr SALT- ene Penna Raw-mm Application filed November 30,1928{ Serial No 322,672.
The present inventionre'lates to condiment holders, and aims .to provide an improvedcombination 'receptaclefof thesalt and pepe per box type, of compact form providingsep- 5 arate condiment compartments i withinf'the same body portion and a single and removable cover or closure structure carried by the top r of the receptaclefor regulating the'discharge fro'm'both'of the condiment compartments.
Accordingly have" devised an improved construction of this character comprising a receptacle having an integral base'and body portion formed with separate condiment compartmentsand carryingaremovable'cover or 20 It is also sought to provide a device of 6X- tremely simple construction 'andcompact form and of as few partsias possible :for adapting the same to be cheaply and economicall-y manufactured. if V 7 With the aforesaid general objects in" view, the invention will now be described'by refer ence to the accompanying drawing'in which is illustrated one practical and efficient em bodiment of my improved construction, after 30 which the novel features and combinations thereof will be set forth and claimed. In the drawing I 7 7 Figure 1 is a view showing an elevationiof the improved condiment holder, constructed in accordance with myinvention;
Figure Qis a central vertical sectionalview ofthe samep a Figure 3 is a plan view of the device;
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view, representing asection taken on the line IVIV ofFigurel; i 1', I Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional detail of the upper portion of the device; Figure 6 is a vertical vsectional fragmenshowing a section at right angles to the plane of Figure 1;
Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspectiveview 5:) illustrating the upper part of the body por- Y structure removed; and
can of the receptaclewiththe cover orclosure I FigureS is" an enlarged detail View ofsaid cover orclosure structure, representing a scce tion taken on the line VIII-VIII of Figs,
ure 6.-
Referring now to the. said drawing in detail,- this illustrates the improved construction as comprising abody or receptacle portion '10 integrally connected with a base portion v12 of anysuitablematerial'adapted to be made up by die-castinginto any desired ornamental form, as indicated in Figure 1, and with the interior of the receptacle portion 10 divided by a partition structure 14 into separate condiment compartments 15, as illustrated in formed with an upwardly projecting extensionlf, formin a continuation of the partition within thetop or cover member 16 which of any desired ornamental design having a mortise fitting engagement with theupper inargin of the body portion 10, as indicated at :17 see Figures 2 and 6). The extension 14.
servesal'sothe useful'purposeof a battle memher, s nce on removlngthe cover member 16 it is adapted to prevent anyaccide'ntal mixing of the condiments in the refilling of the, receptacle, such as might. occur if the condi-, ment being poured into one of the compartmentsl5 should be'spilled over into the other by the presence of said] extension 14"., The
tionelement 18 formed with a groove or chairnel19 of-V shape to fit the correspondingly The vertical middle 'por'tion oftth'e partibid Figurest and 7. This partition 14 is also j r r 'compartm'e'nt315,the opportunity. for such spillingaction being practically eliminated inter'iofbfthe cover member is also provided with diametrically extending rib 'or parti 'tion 14g suitably enlarged to providea c'enr tra1v rtica1 bore 20-for passa e of a rod or 'pin 2l'forsecuring the cover member 16- in "place, The lowerend of therod '21 is formed witha knob2'2 engaging the bottomface of the receptacle portion 10 within the hollow base member-12, this knob having a suitable fingerengagingrprojection 23. The upper end of the rod or pin 21 is threaded to's'cI-ew 2 j s ff1,75 s, 117
into a threaded socket24 formedwithin the I cover member at the middle portion of the rib or partition element 18 (Figs. 2, 6 and 8). A pin 25 inthe bore 20 engages a slot or groove 26 in the side of the r0d 21 to prevent the latter from dropping outzof the bore, as at times when thecover member 16 is removed for the purpose of filling the receptacle."
A closure element 28 is fitted to the exterior face of the cover member 16 and provided .with two sets of openings 30 adapted to be brought separately intoregister with two similar sets of openings "31 in the cover member 16 at opposite sides of its rib or partition 18, for the purpose of separately regulating the discharge of'the' contents'from the receptacle compartments 15 and thus enabling the individual user to obtain a supply of -either condiment as desired. The closure element 98 is secured rotatably in position by means V -ofa cap piece 32 having a central hub'port1on 33 entering a central openlng '34: 1n sa1dclosure element 28 and secured bypress-fitting engagement with a pin 35 projecting up from the apex'ofthe coverme'mber 16. 1 This cap piece 32'encloses a coil spring 37, coiled about the hub portion 33, and exerting a pressure upon themargin of the opening 34 in the closure element 28 whereby the latter is maintained' in yielding frictional engagement with the outer face of the cover. member 16.
The rotative movement of the closure element 28 is-limited by a pair of finger pieces for indicating the alternate registered relations of the openings 30 and 31 for respectively dischargingsalt or pepperv from the receptaclecompartmentslii.
" It. will thus be apparent that I have'fdevised a simple and'practical constructionfor carrying out the desired objects of the invention, and in a combination form which is V susceptible of beingembodled 1n attractive designs of a very neat and-ornamental character.
