This invention relates to a toy fence, such as used with Christmas trees, the general object of the invention being to provide lamps for some of the posts of the fence, with base pieces for the fence through which the conductors for the lamps pass, with plug and socket means for connecting the conductors of the diii'erent base pieces together so that fences of various sizes and shapes can be 9 readily assembled.
This invention alsoc'onsists in certain other features of construction and in the combination-and arrangement ofthe several parts, to he hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointedout inthe appended claims.
In describing any invention in detail, reference will be had to'theaccompanying drawings wherein like character's denote like or corresponding parts throughout "the several yiewsyand in which Figure 1 is a plan View showing one form of fence which may be constructed froina plurality of sections constructed in accordance with this invention.

Thus the fence is composed of sections which are detachably connected together by the tangs, and in carrying out my invention, I arrange la1nps'5 on some of the posts and provide a base 6 to which the lower ends-oi the posts are connected and through which the conductors for the lamps pass. This base is made up of a plurality o'1""secti'ons,each section -being formed of'a channel-shaped member 7 and two strips ofnon-conductingmaterial 8 which areeplaced in the channel-shapedmeniber and these stripsare held in place-bybend ing inwardly the lower edges cit the flanges, as shown in Figures 6 and r. A socket member 9 is placed in each end of each section oi' the base, sald socket member being formed with the double socket 10 which istransversey ly arranged "and with the single socket ll whicheritends at rightangles to the socket 10, the socket 1O registering with the holes 12 formed in the sides of the channel-shaped ineinb'er. Each socket member is p'r'efferably stormed of a sheet of metal bent upon itself with parts thereof shaped "to ior'in the sock ets, as clearly shown in Figure 11. The socket members are placeclbetweenthe stripsB. The section which is adapted to be connected with the house current or other supply of electricity, such as the section A in Figure '1, simply contains the two socket members, as shown in Figure 10 The terminal plugs 13 are inserted through the holes 12 at one side of thesec'tion into the sockets 10 of the two socket rneinberscarried by the section A, the terminals 13 being connected by conductors with the house current or other source of siipply.
The base sections 13 of Figure '1 are placed one on each "side of thesec'tion A and each "of these sections B has attached to eac'h end thereof a post 1, the post at the outer end of each section carrying the electric lamp 5. Each 'hase section has a rod 15 placed be- =t\'veen the strips of insulating n'iaterial, with one end passing through the centerof the socket member 9 at the inner end of the section, with saidend projecting to {6111-1 the plug 1'5", the other end of the rod eer-mines ing short of the other socket member and this other end is connected by a conductor 16 with one terminal of the socket for the lamp 5. The other terminal of the socket is connected by a conductor 17 with the socket member 9 at the outer end of the section. The plug 15 of each section B is placed in the socket 11 of each socket member 9 carried by the sectionA.
The base sections C are placed at right angles to the sections B and these sections C are made similar to the sections B, with the exception that the post which is not provided with a lamp is omitted. The plug forming part 15' of the rod of each section 0 engages a part of the socket 10 of the outer socket member 9 of each section B. The two sections D do not carry posts and each of these sections D has its rod 15" extending entirely through the section with its ends projecting therefrom to form the plugs. As shown in Figure 9, this red passes through both socket members with one plug engaging a socket 11 of a socket member carried by each section C.
The sections B are similar to the sections B, with the plugs of the sections D engaging portions of the sockets 10 of the members 9 of said sections B. Then two sections D which are similar to the sections D are placed at right-angles to the sections B, with a plug each section B engaging a socket 10 of the member 9 at the inner end of each section B. A gate section E, having a lamp carrying post at each end thereof, has its sockets 10 receiving the plugs of the sections B, this section E having its rod 15 terminating short of both socket members, with its ends connected by the conductors 16 with the lamp sockets of the posts, the other terminals of the lamp sockets being connected by the conductors 17 with the socket members 9 of the section E. The posts of the gate section are formed with the perforated ears 3 to which the gates X are pivoted.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the current flowing from the source will pass through one of the socket members 9 of section A through the rod 15 of one of the sections B to the lamp on the post at the outer end of said section B and from the lamp, the
current will pass to the socket member at the outer end of said section B, through the rod 7 of the section C which abuts the said section B, through the lamp of the post carried by the section C, then through the rod 15 of the section D to the section B which abuts said section D, through the lamp of said section B and through the rod thereof, then through one of the sections D, then through both lamps of the section E and the rod 15 of said section E through the other section D, then through the other section B and through the lamp of the post at the outer end of said section B, then throu h the sections D, C and B and he lamps of t e postso f a d sections C and B to the other socket member of the section A from which it returns to the source through the conductor which is connected with said other socket member.
Thus the circuit is completed through all the sections and the lamps on the posts of the various sections.
As before stated, Figure 1 shows one form of fence which may be formed with the sections, it, of course, being understood that other forms of fences may be constructed with the sections or by adding other sections, as desired. It will also be understood that sections may be connected together by using short lengths of conductor rods placed in the sockets of the members 9 of said sections.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A toy fence comprising posts, a sectional base to which the posts are attached, fence sections detachably connected with the posts, lamps carried by some of the posts at their upper ends, socket members at the ends of the base sections, each member having a transversely arranged socket and a longitudinally arranged socket therein, lugs carried by some of the base sections for engaging the sockets of other sections and means for electrically connecting the lamps on the posts with the socket members and with the plugs of the sections which carry the lamp supporting posts.

A toy fence comprising posts, a sec tional base to which the posts are attached, fence sections detachably connected with the posts, lamps carried by some of the posts at their upper ends, socket members at the ends of the base sections, each member having a transversely arranged socket and a longitudinally arranged socket therein, plugs carried by some of. the base sections for engaging the sockets of other sections means for electrically connecting the lamps on the posts with the socket members and with the plugs of the sections which carry the lamp support ing post-s, each base section comprising a channel-shaped member, a pair of strips of non-conducting material therein and between which the socket members are placed, a rod pa sing between the strips in some of the base sections and through the socket members therein to form the plugs of said sections and some of the sections having the inner ends JOHN P.
