F. BORZI OIL CAN Filed Jan. 25, 1928 Fan/L B0) INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS; P
Patented Apr. 8, 1930 FRANK BORZI, OF WASHINGTON", DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOB TOCHABLES R. SUMMA, F WA'IEBBURY, GUIINEGTICUT OIL CAN Application filed January 23, 1928.
This invention relates to liquid dispensing devices and has for an object the provision of means for dispensing or discharging liquids of ditlerent characters from a single container, the invention being especially designed for use as an oil can.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an oil can from which ditlerent grades of oil may be dispensed, the invention residing in the novel construction of the can or container whereby separate upper and lower chambers are provided, together with selective means arranged convenient to the handle of the can, whereby oil from either 4 chamber may be dispensed, and means to permit of the introduction of oil into either chamber.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an oil dispensing can wherein the dispensing means includes a cylinder provided with a valve controlled inlet opening and a discharge plunger, the arrangement being such that a single spring is utilized for yieldingly holding the valve seated and for returning the plunger to normal position after the discharge stroke.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional view.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention as shown comprises a container 10 which is divided by a horizontal partition 11 into an upper chamber 12 and a lower chamber 13. The container is providedwith a discharge spout 14 which extends from the upper chamber and with a handle 15.
Extending into the upper chamber12 is a cylinder 16 which is provided at its inner end with an inlet port 17. This cylinder extends outward into a nipple 18 which is Serial No. 248,821.
secured to the container audits outer end is normally closed by a threadedly attached cap 19. A dischar e tube 20 extends from the cylinder 16 and communicates withthe discharge spout 1d, aspring influencedcheck valve 2l beinglocated within this tube.v
Extending into the lower chamber 13 is a cylinder 22 and this cylinder isalso provided at its inner end with an inlet opening" 23. The cylinder 22 like the cylinder 16, extends into a nipple and is closed by a threadedly secured cap 2d. The outer ends of the cylin ders 16 and 22 are thus arranged: adjacent. the handle 15 within convenient reach of thethumb ofa hand grasping the handle. A discharge tube 25 extends irom'thecylinder 22 and communicates withthespout; 1d and is controlled by a spring influenced check valve 26.
The inlet openings 1? and 23 of, the cylind-rs l6 and 22 respectively are controlled by'check valves 27, while operating within each 01 these cylinders is a plunger 28.; Stems 29 extend from the plungers 28 through the 01111319 and 2d and these stems are provided upon their outer ends with finger pieces 00. Springs 31 are interposed between the plungers 28 and stops 3 for the valves 1? and 27, to force the plunger outward at the end of its inner stroke.
The chamber 12 is provided with a filling opening which is surrounded by a neck 32 and this opening is normally closed by a cap 33.
In order to fill the lower chamber 13 there is provided a filling pipe 34: whose lower end communicates with this chamber and whose upper end is normally closed by a cap 35.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is 1. in a liquid dispensing device, a container a discharge spout for the container, a horizonta. partition dividing the container into an upper chamber and a lower chamber,
norma sed filling openings for the chambers, a cylinder extending into the upper chamber and having an inlet opening, a second cylinder extending intothe lower chamr her and also having an inlet opening, a discharge tube extending from each cylinder to the discharge spout, check valves for the inlet openings of the cylinders, spring influenced plungers Within the cylinders, rodsextending from the plungers to operate the latter, and check valves Within the tubes.
2. In a liquid dispensing device, a container, a discharge spout for the container, a horizontal partition dividing the container into an upper chamber and a loWer chamber, a cylinder extending into the upper chamber and having an inlet opening, a second cylinder extending into the lower chamber and also having an inlet opening, a discharge tube extending from each cylinder to the discharge ;pout, check valves for the inlet openings of the cylinders, spring influenced plungers Within the cylinders, rods extending from the plungers to operate the latter, and check valves Within the tubes, said upper chamber having a normally closed filling opening, a vertically disposed filling pipe having its lower end in communication With the lower chamber and a removable closure for the upper end of said pipe.
3. In a liquid dispensing device, a container, means dividing the container into separate chambers, a discharge spout for the container, a handle for said container, independent means to discharge liquid from each of the chambers, and means extending from the container above the handle to selectively control the discharge of liquid from either chamber,
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FRANK BORZI.
