This invention relates to improvements in display stands, particularly adapted, though not necessarily limited in its use, for holding and displaying articles or packages to be 6' piled thereupon or for holding a container in which the articles are packed, in such a manner that the articles will' be displayed to the best advantage and in a convenient position so that they may be readily dispensed.

A further object is to provide an improved stand of this character constructed of a single piece of sheet material maintained in a tlat condition for shipment and storage purposes and adapted to be bent into shape for use, the blank being provided with means for facilitating in the bending thereof and for indicating the point or lines upon which the different portions of the blank are to be bent to shape the stand.

To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention, and in which-" p Figure 1 is a top plan view of one form of blank. i

Referring more particularly to the drawings and to the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 3, the blank is formed of a, single piece of sheet material and embodies a body portion 10, having lines of perforations or apertures 11, 12 and 13 extending thereacross and at predetermined points in the length of the blank.

The circumferential edge of the blank is bent upon itself as at 14 for re-enforcing the edges and each of the lines of perforations 11, 12 and 13 is provided at the extremities thereof with openings 15 so that when the edges of the blank are folded these openings 15 will extend through the edge of the blank to facilitate in the bending of the blank.

The blank thus formed is bent upon the lines of perforations 11 to form an end portion 16 that extends downwardly from the body portion 10. rEhe other end of the blank is bent along the line of perforations 12 to form an upwardly extending portion 17, and this upwardly extending portion is also bent along the line of perforations 13 to form a downwardly and outwardly inclined portion 18.

The portion 17 forms an abutment wall for the articles 19 which are placed upon the body portion 10, and the edge formed by the bend at the bottom of the portion 17 cooperates with the extremity of the downwardly bent portion 16 to hold the body portion 10 in an upwardly inclined position.

The free extremity 20 of the portion 18 terminates preferably substantially in alineinent with the edge formed by the base of the bent portion 17 and constitutes an extended exposed surface on the stand for the reception of advertising or descriptive matter.

lt will be manifest that a stand thus constructed will be of a strong and durable construction and when it is desired to ship or store the stand the bent portions may be deflected or straightened out so that they will assume positions substantially in the same plane as the plane of the body portion 10.

ln the forni of tne invention shown in Figures 4 and 5, the blank is formed and the stand is shaped in the same manner as that shown in Figures 1 to 3, andy in addition thereto portions 21 of the body portion 10 preferably adjacent the line of perforations l1 are cut out and deflected upwardly so as to project above the upper surface of the body,A portion 10 and in a direction opposite to the direction in which the portion 16 extends from the body 10. These upwardly projecting portions 21 co-operate with the upwardly extending portion or wall 17 at the forward end of the body portion 10 so that a container 22 may be placed upon the stand, the forward portion of the container abutting the wall or portion 17, while the upwardly extending portions 21 stand adjacent the rear of the container and serve as a means for preventing accidental displacement of the container from the stand.

In the form ofthe invention shown in Figures 6 to 8, the blank embodies a body portion 23 having lines ot perforations 24, 25 and 26 thereacross. The end of the blank is bent upwardly along the line of perforations 25 to 'form an upwardly projecting wall 27 and the upwardly projecting portion thus formedis bent along the line of perforations 26 downwardly and outwardly to form the portion 2S which provides anextended area for the reception of advertising or descriptive matt-er. Y

' The other end of the blank is bent upwardly along'the line of perforations 24 to form an upwardly projecting portion 29 that extends for a considerable distance above the upper surface of the body portion 23. The free extremity of the upwardly extending portion 29 is shaped to form a forwardly projecting ledge 30 and the portion 29 may be arranged at any desired anole with respect to the body portion 23. A portion of the body 23 is cut out as at 31 and a line of perforations 32 is provided in the body portion 23 adjacent-one end of the eut out portion 31. v

The portion 31 is ydeflected downwardly' so as to project below the body portion 23 to serve asa foot or support which copper-- ates with the edge forming the junction between the body portion 23 and the upwardly projecting wall 27, to hold the body orvstand f against accidental closing. Y

Y- ln this form of the invention, as in the other forms, it Vwill be manifest that when 1t is desired to ship or store the blank the various bent portions Vmay be straightened out so that they will assume positions within the plane of the body portion 23.

With this invention it will be manifest that there will be provided a light, simple and durable stand, all constructed from a single piece of sheet material and which mayT be shipped or stored in a fiat or knocked down condition, the lines of perforations also serving as indicators'or guides for directing the user in defiecting or bending of the various parts to shape the stand for use.

While. the preferred forms of the invention have been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, within the scope of the claims, without departing fromr'the spirit of this invention. A stand of the character described em- I bodying a body portion formed from a single piece of sheet material, portions of the body in alinement with and spaced from each other being bent in opposite directions, one of said portions extending upwardly and the other downwardly from the body, the latter said portion serving to holdthe body in an upwardly inclined position and the portion of the body in proximity to the said downwardly bent portion forming an upwardly extending portion projecting for a considerable distance above the upper surface of the said body, and a forwardly projecting formation on the last recited upwardly extending portion and spaced above the said inclined portion of the body.
