SUPPORT FOR CURTAINS AND PORTIERES AND FOR THE RODS FOR THE SAME Filed Nov. 1, 1928 F19] W 14 I: /21 J6 1 20 '11 3 I 3 6 I J .5 12
Patented Mar. 11, 1930 PATENT OFFICE KARL WEHNER, OF MANNHEIM, GERMANY SUPPORT FOR CURTAINS AND PORTIERES AND FOR THE RODS FOR THE SAME Application filed November 1, 1928, Serial No. 316,438, and in Germany November 4, 1927.
This invention relates to a support for ourtains and portires and for the rods for the same, the support consisting of a hook comprising an adjustable and interchangeable box for the runner pulleys, an interchangeable and adjustable holderfor a curtain rod and a device for holding the outer edge of the curtain or portiere close to the wall.
The support in the form of a hook is made in one piece without apertures and designed to be fixed in the wall either directly or through the intermediary of a sleeve.
On the horizontal arm of the hook a box is interchangeably and adjustably mounted which holds the runner pulleys, and on the vertical arm of the hook a carrier for the curtain rod and is removably and adjustably mounted and on its horizontal arm close to the wall a holder of special construction designed to hold the outer edge of the curtain or portire at right angles to the rod so that the support with all accessories is covered.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 shows the curtain hook in side elevation with pulley box for single and double runners, with interchangeable holder for the curtain rod and with the device for holding the outer edge of the curtain or portiere.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the holder for the rod, the curtain hook being shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 shows in front elevation the device for holding the outer edge of the curtain.
Fig. 5 shows this device in top plan view, the pulley box on the curtain hook belng omitted.
The curtain hook 1 is threaded on its rear portion 2 and is screwed, in a well known manner, into a sleeve 3 in the wall. On the horizontal arm of the curtain hook 1 a box 4 made of band iron is adjustably and interchangeably mounted which has at its ends downwardly directed arms 5, 6 each having a central hole designed to be placed on the horizontal arm of the hook 1. The rear arm 6 has internal threads and it is screwed on the threaded portion 2 of the hook and secured in its position by means of a counter nut 7. After this counter nut 7 has been loosened, the roller box 4 can be adjusted on the horizontal arm of the curtain hook by being screwed forward or backward in order to correctly adjust the distance of the pulley 8 for a single runner or of the pulleys 9 for a double runner.
On the vertical front end of the curtain hook 1 a holder for a curtain rod is removably and adjustably mounted. This holder consists of a sleeve 11, the lower end of which has two rearwardly directed claws 12 designed to bear fromthe right and left tightly against'the horizontal arm 1 of the curtain hook thus preventing the sleeve 11 from turning on the vertical arm of the curtain hook. The upper portion 13 of sleeve 11 is flattened and serves to hold the shaft 14 of an eye 15 for the curtain rod. The shaft 14 of eye 15 can be adjusted in the sleeve 11, 13 in vertical direction and it is secured in its adjusted position by means of a clamping screw 16.
On the rear end of the threaded portion 2 of the curtain hook a device is mounted for holding the outer edge of the curtain against the wall. This device consists of a bar 17 which has a hole in its inner end designed to be placed on the horizontal arm of the hook land to be held by a nut 18 on the threaded portion 2'tightly screwed against the wall. On the outer end of bar 17 a vertical bar 19 of thin sheet brass is fixed by means of a rivet 20 so that it can be adjusted with regard to the bar 17, said bar 19 being preferably in vertical position. The ends of bar 19 are pointed, the upper end 20 being offset inforward direction and the lower end 21 being bent in U-shape forward and upward. Loops sewn on the outer edge of the curtain or portiere are designed to be hooked over these pointed ends 20 and 21.
I claim:
A support for curtains or portieres, comprising in combination a strong hook having a threaded portion on the rear part of its horizontal arm designed to be screwed into a wal1,-a box of band iron removably and adjustably mounted on said horizontal arm by means of downwardly bent arms one at each end and having each a central hole for the adapted to bear from the right and left against said curtain hook, the upper part of said sleeve being flattened, an eye for holding the curtain'rod, a vertical shaft of said eye inserted into the upper flat part of said sleeve, a clamping screw for securing said shaft in the adjusted position, a bar having a hole near its inner end placedover the threaded portion of said curtain hook, a. nut on saidthreaded portion for clamping said bar against the'wall, a vertical bar adjustably fixed on the outer end of saidhorizontal bar, said vertical bar having a pointed offset upper end and aU-shaped lowerpointed end bent forward and upward, said two ends adapted to hold theyouter edge of a curtainclose to the wall.
In testimony whereof I aflix signature o KARL WEHNER.
