My invention relates to improvements on targets and it consists in the constructions, arrangements, and combinations herein described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a target'which is movable when struck by a projectile to display a numerical value.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device wherein the target elements are made of varying sizes, each of the targets having a different numerical value.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a target in which the target elements are swing-ably mounted upon a sup- 16 port and having an indicia carrying portion adapted to be swung into position to expose the numerical value associated with each target, when such target is struck.
Other objects and advantages will appear 20 in the following specification and the novel features will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, wherein,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my target,
Figure 2 is a cross section illustrating the target mounting, the target being in elevated position,
Figure 3 is a similar View illustrating the target after having been struck by a projectile,
Figure at is a front view thereof.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a support 1 having legs 2 at the rear thereof.
Adjacent the upper edge of the support 1 there is provided a plurality of apertures 3, suitably spaced to accommodate targets l.
The targets 4 are illustrated as being progressively smaller outwardly from the center of the support 1, but it will be understood that such an arrangement is not necessary to the operation of the target.
Since each of the targets is constructed alike, one only will'be described. The target 4: comprises a disc 5 preferably formed of sheet metal and has a stem 6 integrally formed therewith. The stem 6 emerges from the disc 5 closely adjacent its periphery and extends a short distance, as at 7, toward the 1929. Serial no. 355,184.

The stem 6 terminates in a plate 9, this plate being of the size to prevent removal of the stem through the aperture 3, when in the position illustrated in Figures 3 and 4. The plate 9 has suitable indicia on one face thereof, which ,is concealed when the target is in the operative position, but adapted to be displayed upon striking of the target by a proj ectile.
Reference is now made to Figure 2, wherein it will be seenthat the curved portion 8 rests and has a bearing upon the edge 10 of the support 1, assuring the retention of the target in its elevated position, while yet permitting free swinging movement of the target when struck by the projectile. It will be understood, that my target is primarily intended for use with toy guns but it will be apparent that the device may readily function with hand thrown missiles.
In the use of my device the target is set up as illustrated in Figure 1, in order that a projectile may be directed toward one of the targets 4. As the projectile strikes the disc 5 the target struck swings backwardly, the edge 10 acting as a pivot or bearing and accordingly swings the plate 9 upwardly to a position closely adjacent the edge 10 the stem falling downwardly in the aperture and holding the target 4 in reversed position against the back of the support and therefore depicts the numerical value associated with that particular target.
From the foregoing, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a target of simple construction, one that is liable in a minimum degree to derangement; and one that will provide means for depicting a score asso- -ciated with respective targets.
What I claim is:
1. A target comprising a support element having a horizontal row of apertures adjacent the upper edge thereof, a target swingably mounted on the edge of said support and in vertical alinement with each of said apertures, said target having a downwardly extended portion passing through its associated aperture, said portion having upon its 100 reverse side a numerical value, adapted to be displayed upon rearward swinging movement of said target.
' 2. A target comprising a support having a plurality of apertures along the upper edge thereof, a target resting upon the upper, edge of said support, said target comprising a disc portion having a stem member bent to form a bearing, said stem being of the length to extend through said apertures and having. a plate at the extremity thereof, to be displayed vupon rearward swinging of said disc portion.
3. A target comprising a support having a fplurality of apertures adjacent the upper edge thereof, a target, said target comprising a disc having a stem, said stem being bent 'to form a bearing for said disc, and being extended through one of said apertures, a
plate upon the extremity of said stem, said plate having a numerical value on the reverse side thereof, whereby upon rearward swing- 7 ing movement of said disc on the upper edge of said support said plate will be swung into a position to display the reverse side thereof.
