Description
March 4, 1930. H. WALL ET AL ROPE STRUCTURE Filed Jan. 26-, 1924 Patented Mar. 4, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFIC HAROLD M. WALL AND V TALDO REINER, F BEVERLY, NEW JERSEY ROPE STRUCTURE Application filed January 26, 1924. Serial No. 688,703.
wrapped around the wire strands, is impreg-.
mated with a preservative and lubricant composed of copper oleate, or the copper or any equivalent salt of any fatty acid of the fatty acid series. The result of wrapping the wire.
strands of a. rope with fibrous material thus treated is to increase the durability of the' structure by reason of the lubricating qualities of the oleate; to preserve the fibrous wrapping from the deleterious eifects of atmosphere, water. etc. Incidentally the fibrous wrapping of the strands so treated I constitutes an easily recognizable and characteristic marker.
In the accompanying drawings, we have illustrated a wire rope embodying our invention. In the drawing, 1
Figure 1 is an elevation of such a rope; and
Figure 2 is a section on'the line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring to the numerals on the drawing, the wire strands in the rope structure are indicated at 3, while 4 indicates a wrapping of fibrous materialfwhich has been impregnated with a preservative lubricant, such as copper oleate or the copper or equivalent salt of any fatty acid of the fatty acid series.
We claim:
A composite rope consisting of a core member twisted from a plurality of fibrous strands in one direction anda plurality of wires laid around the core in the opposite direction, each of said wires being incased in a plurality of casing strands spirally wound on the respective wire in the same direction as the core winding. said casing strands being impregnatedwith a lubricant, said lubri-- cant containing a copper salt. In testimony whereof we aifix our signatures.
HAROLD M. \VALL. WALDO REINER.
