`Without disclaiming anything, and without prejudice to any novelty disclosed, what l claim as my invention is:
l. A, rotary knob pivoted latch mechanism comprising a rose, a knob swiveled in said rose, a cam on the swivel of said knob, inside the rose, a support approximating a barrel for the rose, rigidly secured thereto, a pivoted latch member in Asaid barrel, means on said latch member for engaging said cam, whereby said member is movable into unlat-ching position by rotation of the knob in either direction, said cam and 'engaging means beingV in the planeof the rose, andA means for detachably securing'the rose to the face of a door or window, together with a stationary strike piece for engaging the latch member, and a spring for said latch member, said. spring causing said latch member to return theknob to normal position, after the knob is rotated one way or the other, said barrel being formed from sheet metal bent into shape to provide parallel portions between which the latch member is pivoted, and to provide arms through the medium of which the barrel is'fastened to the rose.

A structure as specified in claim 1, said arms being radial and disposed in the plane of said cam and being permanently fastened to the back of said rose by hollow rivets, with means for spacing said rivets from said door. 3. A structure as specified in claim l, said barrel having a bent portion forming a stop for said latch member, thereby limiting the rotation of said knob, and Said spring being a coil spring disposed behind said stop.

In latch mechanism, the combination of a rose, a barrel, hollow rivets permanently securing the rose and barrel together, a rotary knob swiveled in said rose, a latch member pivoted in said barrel, Ya cam on the swivel of said knob, and means on said latch member to engage said cam, said hollow rivets providing openings through which screws can be inserted to detachably secure the rose to a door or window, said rose being cupshaped and provided with an annular inner edge extending a distance beyond the inner ends of said rivets, saidedge engaging the door, thus spacing said rivets a distance from the face of the door or window.

In latch mechanism, a cup-shaped rose formed from sheet metal, a barrel formed from sheet metalbent into shape to engage the inside surface of the J rose, means permanently securing the rose andV barrel together, and rotary knob pivoted latch mechanism operatively supported, by said rose and barrel, forming a structural unit for attachment to the door or window.
8. In latch mechanism, the combination of an outer casing section, an inner casing section, means to permanently secure 'the two sections together, precluding separation of the sections, before the mechanism is fastened to the door, a knob swiveledin said outer section, a latch pivoted on said inner section, and a cam rigid with the inner end ofthe swiveled portion of said knob, said latch member having means for engaging said cam, the axis of the knob and the axis of the latch member being at right angles to eachother.
9. In latch mechanism, the combination of an outer cup-shaped casing section, an innerY sheet-metal casing section provided with projecting feet, Vmeans for securing said feet to the inner surface of the outer section, said inner section having flat parallel walls spaced a distance apart, a latch member pivoted between said flat walls, a spring for normally and yieldingly holding said latch member inoperative position, a knob swiveled in the outer section, and a ca m rigid with the inner end of'said knob, said latchl member having means for engaging said cam.
