Description

Feb. 25, .1930. B. F. SCHMOLDT 1,748,621
SKID PLATFORM Filed June 15, 1925 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Feb. 25, 1930 UNITED STATES BERNHARDT r. SGHMOLDT, or CLEVELAND, OHIO SKID PLATFORM Application filed June 15, 1925. Serial No. 37,226.
0 is "supported. These longitudinal barsvare U constructed longer than the platform, and to form legs, the outer or vertical flanges of the angle bars are out upon the bends at three points, spaced from each other and from the ends of the bar, and triangular portions are I removed therefrom, and the horizontal flange {is then bent atthese cut positions into vertical loops, leaving the width of the horizontal flange to form a broad base for each leg.
The angle bars are arranged at each side of the platform and extend from end to end thereof, and provide rigid reinforcements therefor, and the free ends of the vertical 7 flanges are brought up inside of the vertical 2 5 flanges upon the horizontal portions of the '"anglebars and are butted against the horizontal flanges thereon, thus making the structure rigid in'the extreme. 1 r 7 The invention is hereinafter more fully de- '30'scribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the clalms. 1 In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a V perspective of the platform, Fig. 2 is a longitudinalsection thereof, Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the vertical center of the leg, Fig. I
.4 is a plan of one angle bar and legs thereon.
In these views A represents an oak or hard wood platform, B, B, represent-the horizontal fianges of the steel angle bars secured preferably by means of bolts D, D, underneath B B represent the outer or vertical flanges thereof. These bars, are longer than the edges ofthe platform and the outer or vertical flanges B B thereof are out upon beveled 4 l1nes at E, E, inthreepositions spaced from theouter ends of the bars, and from each other, and triangular pieces of metal are removed and the horizontal flanges are then bentat these points, first downwardly and then upwardly to form longitudinally spaced legs adjacent tothe ends of the platform. I
The upwardly bent ends of these legs are brought up inside of the vertical flanges B B of the horizontalportions of the bars and abut against the inner face of the horizontal flanges B, B, and are then bolted or riveted thereto at C, C, thus making the structure rigid. r
The horizontal flanges at the lower ends of the legs form broadbases having smooth bearing surfaces that will not damage the floors, and the legs are properly spaced apart to permit the platform to be handled from f either end or side at will'of the operator, the distance betweenthe side bars and'legs being sufficient forthe introduction of a truck.
The angle bars being secured underneath I I the platform provide a rigid support therefor and the sides of the looped ends are prefer-I ably inclined toward each other, thus forming braced supports that are integral with the reinforcing barsand are rigid andduraunder a heavy load.
- The longitudinal upper edges of the platform 'may also be reinforced by means of angle bars-or plates G through which the g bolts D,-D, may pass. a
Having described the invention what I I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent is r I 1. In a portable platform of the class dc scribed, legs therefor, each: comprising an the longitudinal edges ofsaidplatform, and felongated angle bar having one Vertical'flange and one horizontalflange, and its extremities ,extending downwardly, and then horizonble in use and will not sag or lose their "shape 7 thence upwardly and engaged with the body of the same bar at spaced positions thereon.
2. In a portable. platform of the class described, legs therefor, each comprising an elongated angle bar having one vertical flange and one horizontal flange, and its extremities extending downwardly, and then horizontally parallel Vwith the body of the bar, and thence upwardly and engaged with the body of the same bar at spaced positions thereon, said upwardly turned extremities Being attached to the vertical flanges of said ars.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand this 8th day of April, 1925.
BERNHARDT F. SCHMOLDT.
