Description

Feb. 25, 1930. JACQBS 1,748,228
TOWEL RACK Filed Aug. 6, 1927 fi I Inventor g Fre Ja b5 A Home y Patented Feb. 25, 1930 PATENT. OFFICE FRED JACOBS, F SPOKANE, WASHINGTON TOWEL RACK Application fi1ed August 6, 1927. Serial No. 211,215.
' My present invention relates to an improved towel rack which while adapted for use in various ways is particularly designed for attachment around the exterior of a hot water tank in order that the towels or other articles supported from the rack may be dried I by being subjected to the heat radiated from 7 the usual type of domestic hot water tank.
j The towel rack comprises an attachment including a sectional ring or band adapted to encircle and be secured about the exterior of the hot water tank, and a plurality of supporting arms are pivotally carried on the band. The invention consists in certain novel 1 combinations and arrangements of parts in- In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated onecomplete example of the physical embodiment of, my invention, and also illustrated a modified form of the invention,
the parts being combined and arranged 'accordin to the best modes I have so far devised or the practical application of the principles of my invention. 4
Figure 1 is a View in elevation showing a domestic hot water tank with the towQl rack of my invention attached thereto;
Fig. '2 is an enlarged view showing the towel rack detached;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the towel rack; Fig. 4 is a view showing a portion of one "end of the band with a modified support thereon; I Fig. 5 is a View showing the hooked end of the sectional band; and r Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a supporting clip which also performs the function of a filler for the band.
I In order that thegeneral arrangement and relation of parts may readily be understood, I have shown in Fig. 1 a hot water tank T of the usual domestictype having a base B and the usual pipes P.
The towel rack includes an annular band adapted to encircle the exterior of the tank,
and this band comprises the sections 1 and 2 each of which are fashioned with flanges 3, and these flanges are secured together by bolts and nuts 1.
The free end 5 of the section 1 is provided with a series of vertically arranged slots 6, and the free end 7 of the section 2 is provided with a complementary hook 8 that is adapted to pass through a slot 6 from the exterior of the band, for the purpose of attaching the two free ends 5 and 7 rigidly together after thekband has been applied to the hot water tan Each of the band sections is fashioned with exterior ribs 9 that form interior grooves 10.
The metal of the band sections may be pressed or struck up by suitable machines to form these ribs and grooves, and the inner grooves head 11 as the pivot in order to gain access to different arms or racks of the device.
In Fig. 6', a perspective view of a clip 13 is shown, and in Fig. 2 this clip is illustrated in position to form a filler in the space be tween the tank and a'free end of the annular band. This clip 13 has a pair of spaced inner plates 14 and the clip is fashioned with a vertical exterior rib 15 that forms an inner groove 16. The rack arm 17 has a bent head 18 as shown in Fig. 3 which fits down between the exterior face of the annular band and the inner face of the rib 15.
From this description, it will be apparent that I have provided a device of simple construction which may be manufactured at comparatively low cost, and which may be assembled and applied with facility to the tank, and which will perform its functions as a towel rack in a proficient manner.
Having thus'fully described my invention,
.what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination in a towel rack with a sec-.
tional band having spaced slots near one end and a complementary head at the other end, of an adjustable space-filling clip of inverted U-shape in cross section having an exterior rib forming a groove, and a pivotal rack arm supported in said groove.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. FRED JACOBS.
