Description
Feb. 18, 1930. J. JOEL. 1,747,586
RING
Filed Aug. 20, 1928 r1015; Joe;
Attorney Inventor Patented Feb. 18, 1930 PATENT? OFFICE JOSEPH JOEL, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA RING Application filed August 20, 1928.
The present invention relates to a finger ring and has for its prime object to provide means for detachably mounting an insert in the ring.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of means of this nature which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and thoroughly efficient and reliable.
With the above and numerous other objects in View as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of the ring embodying the features of my invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view therethrough showing the insert,
Figure 3 is an edge view of the ring,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary edge view showing the insert removed.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes the ring having a recess 6 formed therein with one end partially bridged as at 7. In the re- 30 maining portion of the recess there is provided a transverse partition or lug 8 having an opening 9 therein.
An insert 10 is provided to close the recess 6 and is shaped in proper conformity with the contour and size of the ring and has a substantially ogee shaped spring 11 anchored at one end to one end of the inner surface of the insert so as to be extended through the opening 9 into the recess under the bridge 7 to hold the insert in place. On this insert there may be applied initials, insignia, or indicia of any nature as will be appreciated by those skilled in this art, and-therefore the inserts could be sold as articles of manufacture and separately from the ring.
l/Vhen it is desired to position the insert end in place on the ring, the spring 11 has its free end placed in the opening 9, and upon slight pressure of the finger, the spring continues through the opening to contact with the bot- Serial No. 300,741.
tom of the recess, within the slot, formed by bridging one end of the recess, while the insert is seated on the side walls of the recess to fit snugly between the edge of the bridge and the upper edge of one of the end walls.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A finger ring of the class described comprising an elongated recess formed on the periph- 7 ery thereof, said recess being provided with a bottom, side and end walls, and having one end thereof bridged over to provide a substantially closed extension having an opening communicating with the recess, an apertured so lug mounted in the recess adjacent said opening, an insert for covering the recess, adapted to rest on the side walls of the recess to fit snugly between the edge of said bridge and the upper edge of one of said end walls, a spring anchored at one end of said insert and adapted to pass through the apertured lug and to terminate within said extension for frictional engagement with the bottom wall thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEPH JOEL.
