Description

Feb. 4, 1930.
B. ADAMS CABINET Filed Sept. 25. 1928 INVENTQR d W Patented Feb. 4, 1930 BOYD ADAMS, 01" IPJ ZTTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA CABINET Application filed September 25, 1928. Serial No. 308,170.
My invention relates to cabinets, and while primarily intended as a decorative bathroom case for storing medicinal and toilet articles, it will be obvious that the device may be employed for any purposes wherein it is found to be applicable;
Important objects of this invention are to provide a cabinet of the type described, 1n a manner as hereinafter referred'to, which has a removable rack, having concealed chambers, which embodies a plurality of transparent panels for displaying articles stored therein, which is simple in'its construction and arrangement, strong, durable and efiicient in its use, attractive in appearance and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and otherobjects in view, which will appearas the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of'parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention hereinafter disclosedcan be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. I
In the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my improved cabinet with one of the side doors in the open position.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a-rear elevation of the cabinet with the'rear door in the open position.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the rack.
A Figure 5 is a side view of the rack.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on line VI-VI,
Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a top plan view of the cabinet bottom.
Referring in detail to the drawing 1 denotes a case or body portion comprising a sloping top 2, a front wallv3, a back wall 4, a pair of side walls 5, and a bottom 6.
The front wall 3 is provided with a hinged door 7 having a mirror 8, embedded therein. The front wall 3 is further provided with a transparent panel 9 disposed horizontally above the front door 7, and with a pair of transparent panels 10 disposed vertically along respective sides of the front door 7.
Each side of the body portion 1 is provided with a hinged door 11 having a transparent panel 12. The back wall 4 is provided with two hinged doors, respectively in-. dicated at 13 and 14.
The front wall 3, adjacent to its upper end, is formed with an aperture provided for 0 the reception of any suitable ornamentation adaptable thereto, for instance, a clock 15, as shown in Figure 1, of the drawing. The door 14 of the back wall 4, is comparatively small and is provided to allow the insertion 6 of the hand onto the case 1 to wind the clock 15, or to secure the latter or other substitute ornamentation in position to the front wall 3.
A rack 16 is removably mounted in the body portion 1, and'consists of a plurality of spaced super-imposed horizontally extending shelves 17 which are connected together and carried by the vertical supports 18. A pair of supports 18 are disposed on respective front and rear sides of the shelves 16 and are spaced from the ends of the shelves 17.
The lower ends of the supports 18 are provided with casters 19, which engage in the grooves 20 formed in the upper face of the bottom 6, adjacent to respective side edges of 89 the latter. The grooves 20 are of a length commensurate to the distance between the casters 19 carried by each pair of supports 18 on'respective sides of the shelves 17. When the casters 19 are engaged in the grooves 20 the rack 16 will be maintained against longitudinal and lateral movement in the body por tion 1. The supports 18 carry fixed handles 21, which are disposed belowthe lowest of the shelves 17 The handles 21 together with the engagement of the casters 19 in the bot-, tom grooves 20 facilitate the removal of the rack16 from the body portion 1 or its replacement therein through either of the side doors 11.
A vertically'extending longitudinally disposed side partition 22 is fixed between ad-- j acent shelves 17 The partitions 22 are spaced from the ends of the shelves 17. Rearwardly disposed end partitions 23 extend from the ends of the side partitions 22 to the rear edges of the respective shelves 17. Each side partition 22 with respective end partitions 23 provides a concealed chamber 24, between adjacent shelves 17.
The rear door 13 is commensurate to that portion of the rack shelving 17 which is provided with the side and end partitions 22 and 23, and is provided to allow entrance to the chambers 24.
' When the shelves 17 are filled with articles for use or display, the partitions 22 and 23 are not discernible through the various transparent panels of the doors and walls of the body portion, thereby providing chambers suitable for storing articles that are intended to be concealed. r
The back wall 4 is provided with a pair of hinges 25, which are adapted for connecting and supporting my improved cabinet against a wall structure. Such hinged connection ermits the cabinet to be swung outwardly from the wall structure to allow access to the cabinet through the rear door 13.
What I claim is:
In combination, a cabinet of the character described comprising a case adapted to being hingedly supported in position, a rack removably mounted in said case and providing a plurality of shelves,
hingedly joined to each side of said case and providing access to respective shelves, said rack being provided with casters facilitating its removal from said case and its replacement in the latter, in" formed with grooves having closed ends, said casters engaging respective grooves for maintaining said rack in position in said case.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
' BOYD ADAMS.
