Description

Jan. 21, 1930. R. WEBER BASKET WITH HANDLES Filed Oct} 1926 .w .m f
Patented Jan. 21, 1930 RICHARD WEBER, OF DBESDEN-UBIGAU, GERMANY BASKET WITH HANDLES Application filed October 7, 1926, Serial No.
The object of the present invention is to produce a woven basket with handle surpassing all existing types of baskets in strength and accuracy of finish. The basket may have any desired form.
the bottom of the basket is formed.
1 are corner stakes or posts and attached to the bottom 3 by means of flexible angle-irons. The bottom may be solid or woven or executed as a frame accommodating an inserted hottom. By changing the forms of the angleirons 2 any desired width or shape may be given to the upper part of the basket. The flexible angle-irons supporting the corner posts are rigidly connected with the bottom and the battens 4 if it has'been found necessaryto use the latter underneath. In the modification shown here screws 5 have been provided for this purpose. If the bottom does not consist of a solid metal plate but of 3O woven material and the like, the flexible angle-irons supporting the corner posts are executed as stays extending from corner to corner, 6 are stakes extending vertically through the entire height of thebasket. The stakes can be made from any suitable material and pass through the solid bottom 3, whereupon their ends projecting beyond the outer surface of the bottom are interwoven and bent around the last strand to produce the rim 7 The handles consist of a curved member 8 whose two bent ends 9 and 10 are inserted in the wall 11 ofthe basket. They are provided P with perforations 12 through which at least one stake 6 extends through the entire height of the basket so that the handles are directly and rigidly connected with the bottom and lower rim of the basket. After having been thus connected the handles are covered by weaving suitable material around them. To
140,118, and in Germany October 22, 1925.
impart sufficient strength to the upper rim of the basket a U-shaped batten 13 made of metal, wood or any other suitable material has been provided for it.
I claim l. A basket provided with handles, in which all stakes pass through the bottom and the corner posts are connected with the bottom by means of angle-irons characterized in that the parts of the stakes and of the said corner posts extending beyond the bottom are interwoven with horizontal strands, the ends of the said stakes being bent around the last horizontal strand.
2. A basket provided with handles, in which all stakes pass through the bottom and the corner posts are connected with the bottom characterized in that the said corner posts are also connected with battens arranged underneath the said bottom by means 01''. angle-irons, the parts of the stakes and corner posts extending beyond the bottom being interwoven with horizontal strands and the ends of the stakes bent around the last horizontal strand.
