INVENTOR ATTORNEY 1929- N.- B. DINSTUHL MEANS FOH ATTACHING SHEETS T0 MATTRESSES Filed Oct. 15. 1928 2 Sheets-Sheet Y E N R. O T T A Patented Dec. 31, 1929 NEELY IB. DINSTUHL, OF: MEMPHIS, TENNES$EE MEANS Fort ATTAGHING snnn'rs T raarrnnssns Application filed October 15, 1928. Serial No. 312,626.
This invention relates to means for at taching sheets or other bed clothing to a. mattress, the invention being an improvement over that forming the subject matter of my application, filed June 20, 1928, Serial No.
The general object of this invention is to provide snap fasteners or buttons for connecting the ends of the mattress bands together and to provide buttonholes in the sheets or other bed clothing which are adapted to engage the buttons or fasteners on the bands to hold the sheets in. place so that the bands can be easily and quickly attached to or detached from the mattress and the sheets can be easily and quickly attached to the bands or detached from the bands.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings'wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mattress, showing the bands in place thereon.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the bands.
Figure 3 is a plan view of one of the sheets.
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing a top and bottom sheet attached to the mattress.
Figure 5 is a detail perspective View showing the bottom sheet ready to be attached to a band on the mattress.
Figure 6 is a similar view showing the bottom sheet attached to the mattress and the top sheet ready to be attached thereto.
Figure 7 is a similar View showing both sheets attached to the mattress.
Figure 8 is a View of one of the buttons or fasteners used with the invention.
In these views, the numeral 1 indicates a pair of bands which are of such a length that they can be passed around the mattress A, with one end of each band having a number of buttonholes 2 therein and the other end of each band having a buttonor snap fastener 8 therein. A similar button or fastener 4 is attached to the central part of the band so that this button will be located at the edge of the mattress when the bandis in place, the button 3 being arranged at the opposite side of the mattress. Thus it will be seen that the bands can be uuicklv and easily placed around the mattress and by having a number of buttonholes, the bands can be placed on different sizesof mattresses.
It will, of course, be understood that as many of these bands can be used as desired. The two sheets B and C are each formed with a number of rows of buttonholes 5 arranged adjacent each side edge of the sheet, reinforcing strips?) being attached to the sheet at the points where the buttonholes are made, the holes passing through these reinforcing strips.
The bottom sheet is placed on the mattress and the fasteners or buttons on the bands are placed in the proper buttonholes in the sheet so that the bottom sheet is firmly attached to the mattress. Then the second sheet C is placed over the first sheet and the buttons or fasteners placed through the proper buttonholes on this sheet. The top rows of buttonholes are so placed that the top sheet can be folded at its top part, as shown at C in Figure 4. Thus both sheets are attached to the mat-tress so that there is no danger of the occupant of the bed being uncovered, due to restlessness or other causes.
As shown in Figure 8, each button or fastener consists of a male member 7 and a female member 8, and with this type of button, the buttons can be placed on the bands at any points desired.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
\Vhat I claim is 1. In a means for securing bed clothing to a mattress, comprising in combination a plurality of bands adapted to be placed transversely around the mattress, one end of each band having a number of buttonholes therein, a button on the other end of the band, a button at the center of the band, the buttons being so placed that when the band is on the mattress, the buttons will lie at the side edges of the mattress and sheets having buttonholes adjacent their side edges in registry with and receiving the buttons on the bands.
2. In a means for securing bed clothing to a mattress, comprising in combination a plurality of bands adapted to be placed transversely around the mattress, one end of each band having a number of buttonholes therein, a button on the other end of the band, a button at the center of the band, the buttons being so placed that when the band is on the mattress, the buttons will lie at the side edges of the mattress, sheets having buttonholes adjacent their side edges in registry with and receiving the buttons on the bands, the but tonholes in the sheet being arranged in transversely arranged rows ad acent the side edges of each sheet and a reinforcing strip attached to each sheet at the points where the buttonholes are made, the buttonholes passing; through these reinforcing strips.
3. In a means for securing bed clothing to a mattress, comprising in combination a plu rality of bands adapted to be placed transversely around the mattress, one end of each band having a number of buttonholes therein. a button on the other end of the band, a button at the center of the band, the buttons being so placed that when the band is on the: mattress, the buttons will lie at the side edges, of the mattress, sheets having buttonholes ad-- jacent their side edges in registry with and.: receiving the buttons 011 the bands, the but-- tonholes in the sheet being arranged in trans-- versely arranged rows adjacent the side edges: of each sheet, a reinforcing strip attached to each sheet at the points where the buttonholes; are made, the buttonholes passing through these reinforcing strips, each button comprising a male part and a female part whereby the two parts of each button are detachably' connected together.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
(Mas) NEELY' B, DINSTUHL.
