BREAST SUPPOETER This invention relates to new and useful improvements in breast supporters for vent the flapping of the brea sts while walking, which always is an undesired feature in. women afflicted with breasts of unusual proportions.
In carrymg out this inventi 011, I make provision of the well known corset, girdleor other form sustaining garment to serve as a means for carrying the bre which are in the form of a. pai ably assoclated with socket ast supporters, r of stems movmem-bers associated with the garment at the. upper edge thercofand'directly beneath the breasts, said stems being formed or equipped at their up per ends with brackets suitably shaped to conform to the curvature of the undersides of the breasts. Furthermore, spring means is provided for normally urging the stems in an upward direction.
The spring means is however, of such a nature as to permit the stems to move downwardly when the user of the support bends over, so that the brackets will v tion with the plate is a narrower keeper plate so not bind, and thus produce discomfort.
An essential object of this invention is to provide a supporter of this character that is simple and inexpensive, and
serviceable, as well as comfortable, and that that is highly will perform all of the functions heretofore stated.-
With the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature ofthe invention is betterunderstood from the following specification when considered 111 accompaniment with the ence characters throughout the front elevation equipped with Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary of the corset so equipped. Figure 4 is a vertical secti front elevation en through one angles to Figure 4.
1928. Serial No. 286,050.
of the socket members associated with the garment and within which is arranged one of said stems.
Figure 5 is a vertical section taken at right Figure 6 is a group perspective of the two units forming one of the said sockets.
Figure 7 is a transverse section therethrough, and
Figures 7A, 8 and 9 are elevations of differ- '60 ent types of breast engaging brackets assol(Siated with the upper ends of the stem memers.
Now having particular reference to th drawings, A designates a corset, girdle or other form retaining garment usually worn by females. Associated with the garment at the upper edge thereof, and'at opposite sides of the center directly beneath the breasts of the wearer are vertically arranged socket units 5-5. These socket units are of any required dimensions, and preferably of relatively flat formation. They may be of any required construction, each preferably consisting of a backing plate 6 having perforations 7 at their edges to facilitate thestitching thereof to the garment. Furthermore, at each vertical edge of the plate as Well as at the lower edge are'slots 8, while for associa- 9 having inturned flanges 10 at its vertical and lower edges, these flanges being equipped with inwardly projecting tongues 11 for engagement through the plate slots 8, after which they are turned inwardly as disclosed ,a contour conforming to the contour of the underside of the breast; see Figures l, 2 and 5. These brackets may be of any desired design, such as shown in Figures 1' to 5, or as I in Figures 7 to 9. a
Obviously, when the garment A is arranged upon the body, the stems 13 are forced downwardly against the action oftheir re- 5 spective 5 rings. The brackets at the upper ends of t ese stems are then properly arranged beneath each breast foro viously su porting the breasts in a firm and relative y orwardly projecting condition. In viewbf the foregoing specification when considered with the accompanying drawings, it will be obvious that I have produced a novel, simple, useful and inex ensive breast support for association with orm supporting garments, and even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detailed structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that so some changes may be made therein, without departin from the spirit and scope of the ap nde claims. v at I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Incombination with a waist form re taining garment, means for supporting a womans breasts in 'proper osition, said means consisting of a pair of Brackets, each having a depending arm engageable at its lowerend with the garment, said garment having a pair of sockets for receiving the lower. ends of saidstemsand means within the sockets for normally urging the stems in an upward direction. A 2. In combination with a waist form retaining garment, means for supporting the breasts of the woman wearing the garment, said means consisting of a pair ofsockets associated with the garment directly beneath the breasts, a pair of stems arranged vertically at their lower ends within the sockets, means at the upper ends of the stems for. conorming to the curvature of the adjacent portion of the breasts'and means between the sockets and said stems for normally urging the-latter in an upward direction. a
3. In a breast supporter of the character described, a keeper unit adapted for attachment to a garment beneath the breast of the 50 wearer, means slidably associated .,with the keeper and extending vertically therefrom for engagement at its upper end with the underside of the adjacent breast, and means between the keeper and saidfir st mentioned means for normally urgin said first mentioned means in an u ward direction.
