This invention relates to a pressing iron.

which by means of a simple handle can be converted into another apparatus, e. g. into a cooking appliance, drying aparatus, frying pan or the like. A further a vantage of the invention resides in the fact that the pressing iron has electrical heating means so constructed that, by suitably connecting it up, d-ill'erent temperatures can be obtained with the minimum consumption of current; moreover the cooking appliance or the like can be heated over -a smaller or greater area.

Fig. 4 a rear View ofthe iron. According to the invention, the iron comprises two parts. The upper part of the iron has heating means, i. e.. an internal body 1,

in which is embodied a resistance wire 2, preferably a spiral ingrooves 3. The grooves are made in sinuous form. In the heating means is an opening 4, into which an article, e. g. hair curling tongs or the like, can be inserted. The resistance wires can be brought to a red heat through the medium of the terminals 5, 6 and 7 the terminals 5 and 6 being at the ends of the coils (Fig. 2), While the terminal 7 'is located between the ends thereof.

As already mentioned, the heating means is disposed in the upper part 1 of the iron S. which part fits into the lower part 9 in such a way that both parts are held together at the forward end by the exterior surface 1U Fig'. 1) engaging with the inclined snrlaee 11 on the interior of the lowerpart. By

In order to obtain a lighter construction, a plate of semi-circuscrews 19 forms the rear of the iron and has an opening 20 concentric with the opening 4 in the heating means.

' By the larrangement of the resistance wires 65 in sinuous t'orm in conjunction with the arrangement ot' terminals described, numerous technical advantages are obtained, for these make it possible to heat up the internal body over a small, limited central area by making electrical connection through the terminals 5 and 7,01- over the whole area by making connection through the terminals 7, 6, 5, which is desirable in using the iron as a cooking appliance. -Agaiin the internal body can be raised to a low temperature, for example, for ironing purposes, by making series connection through the terminals and 5 or to a high temperature for cooking purposes by making connection in parallel through the terminals 7. 6,5, all these arrangements being obtainable by the mere manipulation 4.1i a switch. The upper 'part 1 of the iron -is vso made that different kinds of heating means may be provided. For example, insteadl of the above deseril'ied electrical arrangement, the sinuous resistance may be removed andi gas, spirit, petrol or like means provided. x

3. A pressing iron comprising allower part provided with a flat surface, abody part,
