BRACKET FOR ADJUSTABLE WINDOW VENTILATORS Application filed March 18, 1929. Serial No. 348,088.
This invention relates to improvements in window sash brackets for window ventilators or draft deflectors.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an adjustable window sash bracket for retaining a removable or stationary frame to control the direction of the draft of air entering a room.
More specifically my invention relates to an adjustable hinged bracket adapted to be fastened to the sides of a frame or window casing and having provision for retaining a defiector or sash in one section of the bracket including provision for varying the angular position of said movable section to control the direction of a draft of air entering a room.
To enable others skilled in the art to more fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing my invention when positioned in a window frame.
Fig. 2 is an interior side view showing one of the adjustable brackets.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the bracket, a portion of the sash being shown in broken lines.
Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line H of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 2 and showing a portion of the deflector or sash in position.
Fig. 6 is a section taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2 showing a portion of the deflector or sash.

Referring now to the drawlngs wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
5 designates a window sill and 6, 7 the stiles of a window frame having the usual lower sash 8, which when partially opened necessitates a draft or air regulator or shield as illus- I trated by Fig. 1 of the drawings.
My invention proper consists of a novel and improved bracket shown in detail by Flg.
2 comprising a stationary plate section 9 having a straight front edge 10 and a tapered rear edge 11 so that the top 12 of the section is somewhat broader than the bottom 13. The I said stationary plate section is preferably constructed of light metal and provided with a series of screw or nail openings 14 adjacent the straight edge whereby said platesection may be securely fastened to the inside of the frame of the window.
'The top of the stationary plate section is also provided with a rolled'top edge which is bent inwardly as at 15 and then downwardly as at 16. The downwardly bent portion is curved inwardly and upwardly as at 17, 18 and provided with a slot 19 for the reception of a tongue or lip 20 cut from the upper corner of a complementary, adjustable plate section 21 which is pivotally connected at 22, ad acent the bottom of the first mentioned plate section. The plate sections 9, and 21 are substantially flush with each other so that the tongue or lip 20 must be bent slightly outwardly and upwardly as at 23 so as to freely ride in the'slot 19. The tongue or lip 20 thus limits the inner and outward move ment of the plate section 21. The plate 21 is substantially of the same size and shape as the stationary plate 9 having a straight front edge 24 with segmental slots 25 so as not to interfere with the screw heads which fasten the stationary plate to the window frame. The rear edge of the movable plate or section 21 is bent inwardly at right angles as at 26 and forms a wall of a window sash guide. Spaced from the said wall or angular bent edge of the movable plate or section, I provide an angle strip 27 soldered to the inside of the said movable plate or section and together with the bent edge or wall 26 constitutes a guide for a removable window sash 28. The angle strip 27 is bent upwardly as at 30-thus spacing the side edge of the removable window sash 28 and affording a clearance for the top of said sash from the rolled edge of the stationary section as clearly shown by Fig. 5 of the drawing. It will be of course understood that it is necessary to have a left and a right bracket which constitute a pair for attaching the same to the main window frame to receive the window sash 28. Since the movable section is pivoted to the stationary section,
which is preferably it will thus be seen that an adjustment or regulation may be made to vary the draft opening for the entrance of fresh air from the outside.
5 While I have shown and described my invention with some degree of particularity, it will be realized that other vmodifications and changes may be resorted to underspecial conditions. I therefore do not wish to be limited and restricted to the exact details shown and described but reserve the right to make such changes and modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the subject matter now being claimed. 7 7
