SHADE-ROLLER HOLDER AND CURTAIN-ROD BRACKET.

The main object of the invention is the provision of shade roller holder which may be adjusted upon the window frame without employing screws or nails to attach the same to the frame.
Another object of the invention is the provision of shade roller holder which is extensible and which fits various widths of window frames. I
Still another object of the invention is the provision of shade roller holder which cooperates with the curtain bracket and wherein the latter is adapted for longitudinal sliding movement thereupon for adjusting the position of the bracket depending upon the length of the curtain rod.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of cooperating members which are extensible for fitting various widths of the window frames and which are so con structed as to receive shade roller holder wherein the same may be longitudinally adjusted depending upon the length of the shade roller.
With the above general. objects in view and others that will appear as the ature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

As illustrated on Fig. 1 the invention consists of two devices 20 and 21 each cooperating with the frame at each side of the window. Each device consists of a J-shaped plate 22 and another similar plate Said first named plate at its inner or longer end is provided with two outwardly bent projections 24, which are receivable within recesses 25 between teeth 26 on the inner or longer end of plate 23, when the two plates are in cooperating association illustrated on Figs. 2 and 3 Plate 23 at its termination is bent inwardly or towards plate 22 and the bent portion of said plate at a point substantially parallel with the remaining portion of said plate is provided with two opposing grooves 27 from which results a transverse lug 28. Plate 22 is provided with a longitudinal central slot 29, and a similar slot 30 is made in plate 23, which slots substantially register when the two plates are in cooperating association.
To assemble the two plates'in an operative association the two plates are held at a ri ht angle, lug 28 inserted within slot 29, and when said lug has cleared the inner face of plate 22, plate 23 is angularly shifted until both plates are longitudinally disposed in relation of each other. Fig. 7 illustrates the relative position of the two plates when the same are in the process of assembly hereinabove mentioned. lVhen the two plates are in longitudinal relation with each other, plate 23 is slightly raised angularlyti l on vertical plane, and when in that position plate 23 may be longitudinally shifted upon plate 22 for making proper adjustment of the two plates depending upon the width of the window frame. Thereupon plate 23 is brought towards plate 22 until projections 23 fit within the desired pair of recesses \Vhen the two plates are in engagement with each other by virtue of the construction hereinabove described, they will remain in rigid engagement with each other preventing the relative longitudinal sliding movement of one plate in respect of the other, and to disengage the plates for the purpose of making longitudinal adjustment thereof, the mode of attaching the plate hereinabove stated is reversed and plate 23 angularly shifted on vertical plane in re spect of plate until projections 2 l-come outof engagement with plate within recesses 25 as is obvious.
The other end of plate 28 is provided with teeth or serrations 31 which prevent plate 23 from shifting upon the window frame when the two plates are mounted upon the window frame by virtue of the mechanism presently described.

As already mentioned the two plates 22 anc 23 constitute one portion of the device fitting upon the frame at one side of the window, while similar plates are also arranged upon the frame on the other side of the window, the two parts of the device one on each side of the window being of identical construction. with this understand ing that two plates at each sideof the window are facing each other or are disposed toward the center of the window, while two plates 22 are each disposed awayfrom the window, as is apparent from Fig. 1 on reference to numeral 40 which indicates the handle on rod 39 cooperating with two plates 22 in each section of the invention. As illustrated on Fig. 4 the bent portion of plate 23 is provided at its upper edge with slot 4:1 and at its inner end with an aperture 42. Similar slot and aperture are likewise provided at the corresponding plate on theother side of the window with this change that in the last mentioned plate 23 the aperture is at the upper edge thereof while the slot is at the lower edge thereof, reference being made to the fact that the position of plate 23 may vary in respect of the window, as obviously the plate may be at one time positioned at one side of the window while at the other time it may be positioned at the other side thereof. Such a transposition involves only the reversal of the relative position of the plate in respect of the window frame. Holler shade such as 43 of the usual construction has a shaft which at one of its ends is flattened, while its opposite end is round. The flat end of the shaft is receivable within siot ll at plate 23 on one side of the window, while the round end of shaft such as a is rcceiwible within aperture 42 in the corre sponding plate at the other side of the window.

Said shade roller holder at its base portion is further provided with integrally formed plates 48 which remain at right angle in respect of the shank as clearly seenon Fig. 11. Said plates normally restupon the front face of plate 23 and prevent angular shifting iovement thereof to the same direction to which said plates are disposed. Said plates a8 are provided with lugs 49 which are bent at right angle in respect of plates 48, and consequently remain in parallel relation with the shank 15, as is apparent from Fig. 10. When the shade roller holder remains in operative association with plates 22 and 23 said lugs 49 fit into any pair of recesses 25 between teeth 26 of plate 23 and prevent movement of the shade roller holder longitudinally of the two plates 22 and 23. Said shade roller holder on one side of the window frame is provided with an aperture for receiving the round end of the shaft of the shade roller, while the shade roller holder on the other side of the window at substantially the same point is provided with a rectangular slot for receiving the flat end of the shade roller shaft.
From the hereinabove description it will be seen that each of the shade roller holders on each side of the window may be longitudinally shifted in respect of the plates 22 and 23 in order to accommodate various lengths of shade rollers. In order to dismount the shade roller holder from its engagement with plate 23 the same is tilted in the direction opposite to that toward which plate 518 extends, until lugs 49 come out of engagement with recesses 25. VW hen this is done the shade roller, holder may be shifted in slots 29 and 30 and when the desired position found lugs 19 are positioned within any pair of opposite recesses 25.
The curtain rod bracket designed to cooperate with the device hereinabove described illustrated in the drawings on Figs. 8 and The same embodies horizontal plate 51 and section 52 bent at a right angle in respect of the plate 51, the said section 52 being designed to abut the rear face of plate 22 when the bracket is in operative association with the device. A short section 53 is bent at a right angle in respect of plate 22 and remains parallel with plate 51. Said section 53 normally passes through slots 29 and 30 of plates 22 and 23, respectively, and has a downwardly bent plate 5 iwhich normally remains in abutment with the front face of plate 23 at the lower portion thereof. Said plate 5st has a horizontal lip 55. The outer or forward end of plate 51 is provided with a downwardly bent plate 56 which has a horizontally disposed section 57, from which runs inclined plate 58 which by its end rests upon the lower face of lip 55. It is noted that the several plates hereinabove stated lip are passed through slots 29 and 30.
When in association with plates 22 and 23 as illustrated on Fig. 9, it is apparent'that the bracket is adapted for longitudinal sliding movement for adjusting the same upon plates 22 and 23 depending upon the length of the curtain rod.
The bracket hereinabove described is adapted for carrying great weight due to the fact that plate 51 is supported by the upper edges of plates 22 and 23, while plate 58 resists the downward pull by being in abutment with plate 23.
Plate 59, adapted to be positioned upon the upper face of plate 51 at its outer end is provided with a trough-like section 60 upon which curtain rod 61 is positioned. For strengthening said plate 59 as well as to provide guiding means for plate 59 when the same is extended upon plate 51 skirt 62 is provided at each side of plate 59. The inner end of skirt 62 carries pin 63 with roller 64 disposed thereupon, said pin and roller normally remaining below the plate 51, due to which arrangement the upward movement of inner end thereof is under pressure by weight of the rod 61. From the arrangement described it will be seen that said plate 59 is extensible longitudinally of plate 51 for either bringing the curtain rod to or from the window as may be desirable.
While there is described hereig a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
1. The device of the type described comprising a pair of plates, said plates being provided with coextensive slots, means upon one of the plates engaging in the slot 1n he second plate for pivotal and longitudinal sliding movement of the first plate in respect to the second plate, teeth upon the first plat-e, and means upon the second plate to engage said teeth when the plates are placed in certain position with respect to each other to hold the two plates in longitudinal adjusted position.

The device of the type described comprising a pair of plates, said plates being provided with coextensive slots, means upon one of the plates engaging in the slot in the second plate for pi-vota'l and guiding longitudinal sliding n'iovement ot the first plate in respect ot the second plate, teeth upon the first plate, and projections upon the second plate, said projections being adapted to automatically engage said teeth when the plates are placed in a certain position with respect to each other for holding the two plates in longitudinal adjusted position.
The device of the type described com prising a: pair of longitudinally adjustable plates, said: plates being provided with coextensive slots, teeth upon one of said plates, a shade roller holder pivotally and slidably mounted in the slots for adjustment longitudinally ot the plates, a transverse lug upon said shade roller holder in engagement with one of said plates for preventing shiit't ing movement of said shade roller holder axially thereof, and lugs upon said shade roller holder selectively and automatically engagable with said teeth when the shade roller holder is placed in a certain position with respect to the plates for holding said shade roller holder in adjusted position longitudinally of said plates.

The device 01 the type described comprising. a pair of plates, said plates being provided with coextensive slots, means upon one of the plates cooperating with the slot in the second plate for guiding longitudinal sliding movement of the first plate in respect of the second plate, teeth upon the first plate, projections upon the second plate, said projections being adapted to automatially engage with certain of said teeth for holding the two plates in longitudinal relative adjustment, a shade roller holder mounted in the slots of said plates, said shade roller holder being. adapted for ad justment within said slots longitudinally of said plates, and means, upon said shade roller holder for automatically engaging said teeth to hold the same in adjusted position.

The device of the type described comprising a pair of plates, said plates being provided with coextensive slots, means upon one of the plates cooperating with the slot in the second plate for guiding longitudinal sliding li'lOVGHlGIllJ of the first plate in 'respect of the second plate, teeth upon the first plate, projections upon the second plate, said projections being adapted to automatiearly engage with certain of said teeth for holding the two plates in longitudinal relative adjustn'ient, a shade roller holder pivotally and slidably mounted in the slots of said plates, said shade roller holder being adapted for adjustment within said slots longitudinally of said plates, and lugs upon said shade roller holder automatically engaging certain of said teeth for holding said shade roller holder in adjusted position.

The device of the type described comprising a pair of longitudinally adjustable plates, said plates being provided With coexte sive slots, teeth upon the outer edges of one of said plates, a shade roller holder pivotally and slidably mounted in the slots r ustment longitudinally of the plates, and means upon said shade roller holder automatically engaging said teeth when the shade roller holder is placed in a certain position with respect to the plates for holding said shade roller holder in adjusted position on the plates.

The device of the type described comprising a pair of longitudinally adjustable plates, said plates being provided With coextensive slots, teeth upon the outer edges o2? one of said plates, a shade roller holder pivotally and slidably mounted in the slots for adjustment longitudinally of the plates, and lugs upon said shade roller holder adapted for automatic engagement with said teeth when the shade roller holder is placed in a certain position with respect of the plates for holding said shade roller holder in adjusted position on'the plates.
