Description
June 2 8, 1927.
P. KUTZIN REMOVABLE STOCKING SUPPORTER FOR LADIES GARMENTS Filed March 22, 1926 Patented June 28, 1927.
UNITED STATES PHILIP KUTZIN, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
REMOVABLE STOCKING SUPPORTER FOR LADIES GARMENTS.
Application filed March 22, 1926. Serial No. 96,422.
It is the custom for womens garters to be attached to underthings. This practice has the disadvantage that in summertime it is now often not desired to use the conventional type of supporter garter for the stocking but perhaps to use a circular garter of conventional form so that the stocking may be rolled. Generally speaking, however, the supporter type is much to be preferred both for comfort and other considerations. The principal object of the present invention is to provide means whereby the conditions prevailing in both winter and summer may be conveniently met by an improved type of garter which may be so constructed with reference to special attaching means incorporated in a garment that it will function in the manner of a conventional supporter type and yet be removed readily from the garment when desired.
Another possible advantage of such an arrangement is that the garters may be removed when the garment is sent to the laundry.
In carrying out the invention it is proposed to provide the lower end of a garment with channels which are adapted to receive a circular band constituting with fasteners a supporter garter, the garter itself being of special construction and having improvements incorporated therein which will permit the garment to be drawn on over the head as well as in the so-called step-in fashion.
Reference is now to be had to the accompanying drawing for a detailed description of one suitable embodiment of the invention, in which:
Figure 1 is aview showing the applica tion of the improved garment to a wearer with the garters in use.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in front elevation showing the relation of parts.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view on an enlarged scale showing the improved garter in greater detail.
Figure 4 is a sectional view showing the way in which the garter is supported in the channels provided at the lower end of the garment.
It will be evident that the invention is not to be limited to the particular type of garment in which it is incorporated except that the garment is an underthing of some sort and adapted to be specially constructed at its lower edge to carry and afiord adequate support for garters of the supporter type. Such a garment is indicated at a in the drawings. Hooks and eyes I) may be used to fasten it. Along the lower edge of the garment are formed channels a which may be conveniently done by turning the material back on itself and sewing it. A separate garter is provided for each stocking with a plurality of fasteners. Each garter is formed in two sections and the relation is such as not to restrict free movement of the the sections of the band 0, adjacent each side of each of the tabs or channels a, and hang down for engagement with the upper edges of the stocking.
In use, it will be evident that the two sections 0 of each garter for each leg will be disengaged when the garment is to he slipped on over the head and engaged loosely together around each leg when the garment is in place. The fasteners d are then engaged with the respective stockings. If it is desired to omit the garters as when the stockings are rolled or when the garment is sent to the laundry the engaging ends of the sectional bands 0 are unhooked and the bands withdrawn from the tabs or loops at.
Changes in the type of garment and par ticular form of the garters may be made without departing from the spirit of the in vention.
What I claim is:
1. In a ladys garment of the character described channeled tabs provided along the lower edges, bands adapted to be passed through the tabs, means to secure the free ends of the bands loosely around the legs and a plurality of garter supports carried with the bands one adjacent each side of each of said tabs.
2. In a ladys garment of the character described channeled tabs provided at the lower edges, separate garter bands for the respective legs passed through certain of the tabs, means to secure the free ends of the respective garter bands loosely around the legs and a pluralityof stocking supporters carried with the respective handsone adjacent each side of said tabs.
3. In a ladys garment oi. the character described comb nati channeled tabs formed of overlapped parts of the lower edges of the garment, separate garter bands for the respective legs passlng through certain of said tabs, means .to secure the free 10 ends of the respective garter bands loosely around the legs, and a plurality of stocking supporters carried With the respective bands one achacent each side of each of said tabs.
PHILIP KUTZIN.
