This invention relates to improvementsin alarms and indicators for use in connection with creels, and it consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, andillustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following'description, and designated in the several VlGWSOf the accompanying drawings, by similar reference characters. In the drawings 2 vdesignates the rods, 3 the bobbin supports, at the bobbins, and 5 and 6 the thread guides of a creel. The threads 7 first pass through the guides '5, then through the guide 6, and thence through the alarm and indicator 8' which is supported directly below the guide 6 by a bar or arm 8. i
The alarm and indicator 8 comprises a casing which is fully open at itslower end and embodies a front 9, back 10, top 11 and sides 12. The front 9 is removably secured in place by screws 13, and is together with the back 10 providednwith vertical 'rows of openings'let through which the-threads 7 pass. The openings 1d of thefrespective rows are equally spaced, and the respective rows of openings in the front '9 and back 10' are in alin'ement. and slidably receive the ends of horizontal tubes 16 carried by plates 17. The plates 17' are mounted in the casing for a limited vertical movement with respect thereto and" are supported in their uppermost position by the threads 7 which pass through the tubes 16. The plates 17 have vertically elongated openings 18 and are provided with ears 19 which extend into theopenings 1 and to which the tubes 16 are secured. The plates 17 are'arranged in relatively'spaced units and the plates of each unit are relatively spaced so asto prevent one from interfering with the vertical movement of the other. The alarm mechanism of the devicecomprises an electrically operated bell 28, stationary contacts 29 and 30 secured to the casing,"a storage battery 31 or other suitable source of electrical energy, a lead 31 extending from the bell 28 to'theicontact 29,,a lead 32 extending fromthebell to the battery 81, and a lead 33 extending from the battery to the contact 30. Conductors 34: are embedded in grooves 34 intheouter side of one of the bars 22 and are secured in place by the rods 23. at their lower ends the conductors 34 are provided with contacts 35 and36 which normally rest upon the contacts 29 and 30, respectively, Asthe tubes 16, plates 17 and rods 23 are made of metal, the bell circuit will be closed when the, tube 16 of any one of the plates 17 is in contact witha pair of the rods 23. 1
The threads 7 will normally support the plates 17 in raised position. When the plates 17 are in this position the tubes 16 are in alinement with horizontally alined pairs of the openings 14; and out of contact with the rods 23 and the numeral bearing lower ends of the plates are housed within the casing. Should any one of thethreads 7 break the plate 17 associatedavith such thread will be released and moved clownwardly with the result that its numeral bearing lower end willbe extended below the casing and its tube 16 brought into contact with two of therods 23. It will thus be seen that when a thread breaks the alarm will be sounded and a numeral presented to view by which the bobbin from which the broken thread extends may be identified. The released plate 17 can be returned to and held in normal position. until the repaired thread has been passed through its tube 16 r by rocking the shaft 26 by means of the hand crank 27. The rocking of the shaft 26 will through the medium of the cams 25 and lugs 2 1, raise the bars 22 and rods 23 and the rods 23 will in turn raise the lowered plate 17. After the repaired thread has been passed through the tube 16, the shaft 26 is again rocked to move the cams 25 into their normal depending position and permit the rods 23 to return to their normal posit-ion. YVhen in normal position the rods are spaced downwardly from thetubes 16 so as to permit the plates 1'1 to be solely supported by the threads 7. The alarmand indicator may be used in connection with any creel but it is especially adapted, for
use in connection with the creels ofma chines for making fabric and cord tires.
From 'the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, theadvantages of the construction and of the method of operation of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in' the art to which it appertains. lVhile I have described the principle of operation of .the invention to ether "vvith the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illusjournaled in the casing, cams secured to the shaft and contacting with the lugs, and a lever connected to the shaft. An indicator for a creel comprising, in combination with the bobbins of the creel, a plate for and identifyingeach bobbin and provided with a slot,-tubes carried by the plates for the reception of the bobbin threads, the tube of each plate passing freely through the slots of the other, a casing in which the plates are mounted one in rear of the other to permit them to be supported therein by the threads and to permit them to move into projected position with respect thereto when released by the breaking of the threads, means movably mounted in the easing and embodying members spaced from the tubes, the tube of a released plate being adapted to contact with certain ofthe members of said last named means, and means for operating said last namedmeans to return a released plate to and hold it within the casing while the thread is being again passed therethrough. 7. An indicator for a creel comprising, in combination with the bobbins of the creel, a casing provided in opposite sides thereof with vertical rows of openings and provided in the inner faces of said sides with vertical grooves, a plate for and identifying'each bobbin and provided 'With a vertical slot, vertically spaced tubes carried by the plates and having their ends positioned in said grooves of the casing, the tube of each plate passing freely through the slots of the other, the bobbin threads passing through said openings of the casing and said tubes to supen, and means for limiting the movement of a released plate with respect to the casing.
