INK .nrsrnnsnn.
' Application filed October a, 1925. Serial No. 61,343.
My invention relates to fluid dispensing devices and particularly, although not necessarily, to devices for dispensing printers ink. r
It is a purpose of my invention to provide an ink dispenser of extremely simple, in, expensive and durable construction which effectively protects the inkagainst evaporation and. consequent hardening when not use, but which is manually operable to dis pense ink in any quantity desired and in such manner that the ink is readily removable for application to a printing press.
I will describe only one form of ink dis penser embodying my invention, and will point out the novel features thereof in claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view showing in top plan one form of ink dispenser embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the ink dispenser shownin Figure 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, inwhich similar reference characters refer to similar parts in each of the views, my in vention in its present embodiment comprises a vertical support 15, preferably hollow and formed of any suitable material, such as metal or the like. This support is formed at its lower end with a flange 16 having openings 17 through which suitable fastehing members can be extended for rigidly securing the support in upright position upon a table, printing press or the like.' The upper end of the support is provided with a head 18 constituting a plunger, and exteriorly threaded to receive an internally threaded barrel 19. The upper end of the barrel is closed by means of a cap 20 having an interiorly threaded flange 21 engaging exterior threads on the barrel, whereby the cap is detachably'associated with the barrel to permit the removal thereof for supplying ink to thebarrel, as will be understood.
The upper or outer surface of the cap 20 is of concave form, as indicated at 22, so as to provide a cup portion to which ink from the barrel is supplied through a port 23 formed in the cap and centrally of the cup portion.
As shown in Figure 2, the upper side of the plunger 18 is provided with a thread cleaning member 24 in the form of a disk of felt or other suitable material of such diameter that its edge projects from the periphcry the plunger and into engagement with the internal threads of the barrel 19 so that as the barrel is screwed downwardly upon the plunger the member will have wiping engagement with the threads to remove ink therefrom, thus preventing clogging of the threads to insure an easy and proper feeding of the barrel downwardly on the plunger. This member 24; is firmly clamped to the upper side of the plunger by means of a plate 25 secured to the plunger by screws 26.
In operation, thebarrel'19, when in the uppermost pos tion shown in Figure 2, can be filled with printers ink by removal of the cap 20, and upon replacing the cap and rotating the barrel on the plunger the former will be brought downwardly to cause the plunger to'move upwardly within the barrel and thereby place the ink underv pressure. In this manner ink is ejected from the barrel through the port 23 and into the cup portion 22, the amount of ink ejected depending upon the downward adjustment of the barrel, as
will be understood. From the cup portion.
22 the ink ejected can be removed and applied to the printing press.
By virtue of the cup portion 22 bility of ink being accidentally discharged over the edges of the cap is precluded, and the ink which is not used is allowed to drain back into the barrel through the port 23.
Although I have herein shown and described only one form of ink dispenser-elm bodying my invention, it is to be understood that various departures may be made there from without departing from the spirit of the invention, and within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
An ink dispenser comprising a vertical support having a flanged base through which the possifastening members are adapted to be GX- r tended for securing the support to a table, said support having its upper end flared to provide a fiat topped cylindrical head eaten nally threaded, said head constituting a plunger, an open ended barrel threadediir ternally for threaded engagement with the head, said barrel threaded externally at its upper end, a cap having a depending flange threaded internally for threaded engagement with the upper end of the barrel, said cap having'its upper surface concave to provide a cup portion and having a centrally disposed port through which ink in the barrel. is adapted to be Supplied t the cup portion when the barrel is retetetl -0 feed downwardly en the head, a thread cleaning member on the flat top of the need and com- D g :1 disk of fibrous material at slightly larger diameter than thatef the head, a
clamping plate onthe disk, and fastening members extending through the plate and 'vent clogging of the'latter by the ink;
