This invention relates tocar roofs, and particularly to car roofs of the steel seltsustaining type, formed of roof sheets which extend from eaves to eaves'and are lapped and connected together at their sid-e marginal portions. i p
The objects of the inventionare to construct the lapped marginal portions of contiguous rootl sheets, so as to impart great strength to the roof as a whole, to prevent leakage between the contiguous roof sheets, and to provide an additional rigidifying means interposed between the lapped marginal portions ot' the roof sheets.
In addition to the general objects recited above., the invention includes among its objects such ot-her improvements andadvantages in construction and operation as are found to contain in the structures or devices hereinafter described or claimed.

In accordance with the present invention. the car root is constructed of root sheets 13; of arched form from eaves to eaves of the roof. These root' sheets are preferably con-- structed of sheet metal and are formed at then1 eaves ends with laterally-extended flanges 14 merging at their outer edges into depending flanges 15. Vhen assembled on the roof, the laterally-extended flanges 14 overlie the top faces of the side plates and the depending flanges 15 engage Athe outer side faces of the side plates 11 and function as eaves llashing strips. The transverse marginal portions of vcontiguous root sheets arelapped troml eaves to eaves of the root', and said transverse marginal portions are respectively torm'ed with transverse corrugations 16 and 17, Vextended between the lateral flanges 14 at the eaves endsot the roof` sheets and both upstanding from their respective roof sheets. As shown more particularly in Figures 3 and et the lapped marginal portions of a pair of contiguous roo'l sheets 13 are extended transverselyof their corrugations'l and 17 beyond said corrugations, as shown at 18418, thereby providinga joint, which effec-tively prevents water from getting in between the lapped corrugations.
The overlapping corrugation 16 of the overlapping marginal portion is formed with an upstanding rib 19 projecting from the apex of said corrugation 16 and extending from eaves to eaves end ot itsroot sheet and merging into the eaves flange `14- at the opposite eaves ends of the roof sheets, as Vshown more particularly in Figure 9. In a metal car roof, in combination: contiguous roof sheets having upstanding companion lapped transverse marginal corrugated portions formed with transverse ribs and projecting beyond the planes thereof, the rib of one roofl sheet being extended reversely from the companion rib of the other lapped roof sheet, substantially as specified.
10. In a metal car roof, in combination:
contiguous roof sheets having companion lapped transverse marginal corrugated portions, the corrugated portions of each of said sheets being formed With transverse ribs respectively extended in reverse direction from the plane of the sheet from Which they are formed, substantially as specified.

A roof sheet having a transverse marginal corrugated portion at one end formed with a transversely-extended rib projected from said corrugated portion, and having a transverse marginal corrugated portion at the other end formed with a transverse rib projected in the opposite direction from said corrugated portion, substantially as specified.
13. In a metal car roof, in combination: contiguous roof sheets having lapped inarginal portions formed with upstanding corrugations, the latter having tranverse ribs respectively extending reversely to each other, and the lapped marginal portions of the contiguous roo-f sheets being extended transversely of and beyond said corrugations, substantially as specified.
