Description

\ May H. A. ZIOLA SWITCH BRACKET Filed Oct. 12 1925 Patented May 24; 1927.
UNITED STATES V 1,629,765 PATENT orr cs.
HENRY A. 2101.11.01; TOLEDO, 0111c, assrc'nor. TO rz-rn swenrzsnuen MANUFAC- TUBING. 00., or roLnno, onto, A con-rona'rrciv.
SVITCI-I BRACKET.
Application filed October The purpose of this invention has been to devise a. simple terminal connectioniorelectric wires of heating devices such as cookers of different types. (i-connection in which a bracket is employed for supporting the switch controlling the circuit of said wires, said bracket having socket means also for receiving a plug or equivalent part to enable control of thecurrent intake as well as the current supply. 7
In effect my device is virtually aswitch and terminal bracket providing in a single bracket structure means for controlling the supply of the current to the particular heating means to which the d ice is employed, and having simple means 101' the application f the terminal plug or like device TOPbllIlfI- ing the current to the heating appliance from the main line.
\Vith sucha device as I have designed the switch and terminal bracket may readily be applied to different kinds of heating ap pliances for effective use with any of them.
One Of the preferred embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings from which an understanding of the invention and its merits under conditions of practical use will be had in conjunction with the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of switch and terminal bracket embodying the invention.
Figure 2. is a side view of the same with the bracket body shown in section as secured to a heating appliance.
Figure 3. is a rear view of the device showing more clearly the peculiar terminal block structure and arrangement of terminal connections.
In carrying. out my invention I utilize for my bracket construction a casing member 1 having flanges 2 to enable itto be secured to the heating; appliance to which the device is to be used. The casing member 1 is formed at its upper end with a boss 3 in which is mounted a conventional type of switch 1 having the turning knob 5. The switch t will comprise the usual metal and porcelain parts with contacts, and is secured to the casing" member 1 as shown in Figure 3 by means of terminal and fastening bolts 6. These bolts 6 pass through lateral lugs '7 on the inner portion of the casing mem- 925. Serial No. 62,105.
her 1.. From the switch wires 8 may lead into the heating appliance 9 to which my device secured, in order to carrycurrent into said device whatever it may be. Insulation 10 may be interposed between the base of the switch 1 and the casing member 1' and current intake wires 11 lead to the switch 4.- from a terminal block 12 which is attached to the lower portion of the bracket body or casing member 1 by means of a central bolt 13. This terminal block 12 is a block of special construction made of lava d is adapted to be employed in conjunction ;h-difl erent kinds of switch appliances as well as in its adaptation to my switch and terminal bracket hereof.
The terminal block 12 is provided with terminal members 14 which consist of stems passing through the blocks and screw threaded along the bodies thereof. Nuts 15 are applied to said stems and clamp the block 2 at its upper and lower sides, so as to rmlv attach the terminal members 14 there- C'ther nuts 16 applied to the upper ends or the terminal members near the adjacent clamping nuts 15 are iilsed to attach the wires 11 to the block 12. Intcrposed between the block 12 and the outer side of the casing member 1 insulation comprising a layer 1. (rt-asbestos and one or more layers of mica 18. Attached to the lowermost portion of the casing'inember 1 as by the rivet 19 is the terminal plug socket 20. Tl is socket partially encloses 'members ot the terminal 1 1 and receives the usual terminal plug used so much today for heat inn appliances. I
From the foregoing! it will be seen that when the heating appliance (see Figure 1) is provided with the socket 20, current will be supplied to the heating' appliance 9 according to the adjustment of the switch 4. or cut oil. The current passes through the term nal members 14;. wires 11, switch 4:, wires 8, into the appliance 9.
li ith my invention all of the parts just reierred to excepting the wires 8 and the ap liance 9, bracket structure so that the switch bracket may be bodily connected to the appliance 9 as by screw bolts 22. or disconnected with great ease or facility. Viewed from the side. switch bracket casing member 1 tapers upwardly from itslowerhollow portion havare assembled in my. switch ing the socket 20, to its upper portion upon which is provided the boss 3 Which outstands from the tapering structure.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A switch and terminal bracket compri. ing a switch casing member having side Walls With lateral attaching means and an outwardly spaced skirt portion open at its rear and bottom, a transversely disposed insulated block having terminal members and secured to the inner face of said skirt and a controlling switch located in the casing member and connected to said terminals.
2. A switch and terminal bracket comprising a switch casing member having side walls with lateral attaching means and an outwardly inclined skirt portion spaced from the attaching means and open at its rear and bottom, a transverse insulated block carrying terminal members and secured to the inner face of said skirt next the switch casing member by means extending through the skirt and block, and a controlling switch located in the casing member and connected to said terminals.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature HEN BY A. ZIOLA
