Description

May 17 1927.
F. K. HIENDRICKSON SPINNING MACHINE Filed Dec. 27.. 1926 ATTORNEY.
S o b o o Patented May 17, 1927.
I C E man 1:. nnnnmcxsoiv, or WHITINSVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO wanna MACHINE WORKS, OF WHITINSVILLE, SACHUSETS.
MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MAS- srnmnie MACHINE.
Application filed December This invention relates to the housing of the twisting heads of machine for spinning wool, cotton, or cotton waste and the principal object of the invention is to provide a construction of a twisting head housing made of sheet metal which may be readily opened whenever access to the twisting heads is desired and is readily detached from the machine with a minimum amount of time and labor on the )art of the operator.
Practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a fragmentary portion of a spinning machine showing my invention thereon.
Figure 2 is a plan of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a sectional elevation on line 3-3 of Figure 1 showing in full lines my improved housing in its normal closed position and in dotted lines its open position, it also shows in dotted lines its position when about to be detached from the machine.
In spinning machines of this type as at present constructed the twisting heads are guarded by sections of angular iron bolted to the twisting head brackets thereby necessitating the removalof a section whenever access to the twistin heads is desired. This entails considerable abor on the part of the operative and also lessens the productive capacity of the machine due to the necessary stoppage required to effect the change.
My improvement obviates these faults as access may be had to the twisting heads without stopping the productive capacity of the machine.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrat ing the invention, 10 designates a stationary 49 rail in the framing of the machine, 11 the twisting head bearing supports in a fixed relation to the frame of the machine, 12 the twisting heads rotatable in bearings 13 supported by the brackets 11, and14 are i the drawin rolls. To protect the twisting heads and t ieir bearings from damage from any source a housing, preferably made of sheet metal, is provided made up in sections of convenient length for easy handling. Each section consists of a back member 15 and a front member 16 adapted to abut against each other at the centre line of a pluralit of twisting heads, the abutting edges 0 the two members having oppositely disposed semi-circular openings each loosely 27, 1926. Serial No. 157,109.
eml'iracing the upper part of a twisting head. The back member 15 is fixedly connected at each end on the top of the brackets 11 by a screw 17.
Fixed to the under side of the back member 15 are hangers 18 on which the member 16 is supported and is detachably connected thereto by means of dowels 19 fixedly connected to the member 16 and slidably mounted in a socket in each hanger 18. The 0 en space between the lower edge of the mem er 1.6 and the top of the drawing rolls 14 is covered by the shutter 20 thus guarding the twisting heads and their bearings. The shutter swingably mounted on the lower edge of member 16 by hinges 21 is maintained clear of the twisting beads by abutting against the stop 22 on the lower part of the hanger 18.
The shutter in combination with the back member 15 and front member 16 forms an effectual guard for the prevention of injury to the twisting heads and yet ready access is given to the beads by the operative merely raising the shutter to the position shown by dotted lines in Figure 3, and if desired the front member with its attached shutter may be removed from the machine by the operative simply lifting them so that the dowels on the front member are clear of their re spective sockets. This latter feature is especially valuable when applied to spinning machines having detachable twisting heads such as shown in a (co-pending patent application filed December 11, 1926, Serial No. 154,211 for the reason that these twisting heads may be removed from the machine with a minimum amount of labor and time.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a spinning machine having a plurality of twisting heads, a l'musing for said head-s comprising a back member fixedly connected to the top of the twisting head bearing supports, a front member abutting said back member and detachably supported thereby, and a shutter swingably mounted on the front member.
2. In a spinning machine having a plurality of twisting heads, a housing for said heads comprising a back member fixedly connected to the top of the supports for twisting head bearings, hangers fixed to the under side of said back member, a front member abutting said back member and deta-ehably supportedon the hangers, and a shutter swingably mounted on the front member.
3. In a spinnin machine having a plu- 5 rality of twisting heads, a housing for said heads comprising a back member in a fixed relation with the top of the twisting head bearing supports, hangers fixedly connected to the under side of said back :member, a 0 front member abutting said back member on the centre line'of a plurality of twisting heads, semi-circular openings in the abutting edges of the members adapted to loosely embrace the tops of the twisting heads, a socket in each hanger, dowels fixed to the under sideof front member, a shutter swingably mounted on the front men'lber and a stop :limitingthe movement of the shutter.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
