BABY BATTLE.

This invention relates to toys and especially to the'construction and equipment of The object of my invention is to provide a hollow head member of the character here inafter described, having for its equipment certain features which include the original 1 moving eyes combined with a movable tongue and ears, the'latter featuresbeing arranged to'projectfrom and recede into the hollow headmember by a simple tilting motion of the latter.

A further object of this invention is to affordprotecting covering'for the projected position of the various moving parts of my invention, such covering preferably consti tuting a globular member of transparent material through which the antics of the moving parts may be clearly visible.

The invention is illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing, in which, Figure 1 is a front elevational View of my invention applied to a rattle; Figure 2 is a substantially longitudinal sectional view of the same; Figure 3 is a perspective View of one of the weighted moving parts; and Fig ure 1 is an elevational viewof my invention as it appears applied to a doll.

Referring to the drawing, denotes a holder-to which a hollow head member 11 is attached, the latter comprising briefly,

two sections made up of celluloid or other similar material and shaped to constitute the frontand back features, respectively, of ahuman head. The front shell or'section is denoted 12 and is provided with two flat disc shaped places representing the eyes of a face, the placesbeing depressed in thecenters to form sockets 14:, which open into V-shaped depressions 15 radiating from the sockets 14: in line with the longitudinal axis of the toy itself. Arranged over the eye places are transparent hemispherical globes 16, the open edge of each being fixed to the eye places to provide a chamber in which a small shot 17, representing a pupil, is confined. It will be clear that any tilting motion imparted to the head will result in a shifting movement of the shot 17 and since the latter are more or less guided in their movements by the depressions 15, the impression received Wlll be very amusing and entertaining to a small child. The construc--- tion described thus far is merely a further embodiment of my prior patent, already referred to in this case. A further development of my invention 'compreh'ends the construction of a tongue andjears which will project and recede into the head when the latter is being tilted forwards and backwards to shift the pupils. The tongue 18 comprises a straight strip of coloredmaterial, preferably red celluloid,

wvhich is slightly curved in transverse section and which is provided with two spaced raised knobs 19 arranged on the crown of the strip adjacent one end thereof, the latter end being provided witha lead head 20, as

illustrated in Figures 2 and 3; The-tongue i 18 is carried inthe head 11 bya strip of fiat thin material 21 which is attached at opposite ends to convenient places on the interior surface of the frontsection 1-2, and which is located directly over a longitudinal center line of the face and spaced substantially from the said interior wall of the section l2. The space between the strip 21 and adjacent wall is the same as the/distance between the knobs 19. The tongue '18 is arranged in the head-11 by projecting the same through a. slot 22in the strip '21 and an'opening 23 in the front section 12, the opening 23 being disposed in the'neighborhood of the. mouth. In assembled position the tongue 18 is inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis ofythe head, as

illustrated in Figure 2, the portion of the- -tongue 18 between the knobs 19 being slid ably mounted in the slot 22', while the tip portion beyond the innermost knob and to the end of the tongue is movable through the mouth opening 23 to give the appearance of a true tongue. The weighted end of thetongue 18 is located well within the head and beyond the supporting strip 21 sothatwhen the head is tilted backwards to a certain point theweight will drag the whole tongue towards the back of the 2 head and as a consequence the tip projecting through the mouth opening 23 will recede into the head until the'innermost knob 19 engages against the front of the strip 21.
