The object of the invention is to provide improvements in so-called safetyrazors and containers therefor.

Another' and more specific object is to provide a safety razor holder, comprising a handle, a blade-supporting portion carried by said handle, and a retaining member p lvotally secured to` said supporting portion and normally engaged by a threaded extension of the handle to retain a removable blade in operative position -upon said supporting portion.

AY further object is toprovide as a part of such a razor holder a guard composed of a. transversely extending series off rotatable members, alternate inembers being of less diameter than intervening members, and adapted to roll over the skin and lather in advance of the blade carried by said holder]A instead of scraping the lather from the skin in advance of saidblade.

Still another object is to provide a bladesupporting portion, a handle rotatably secured thereto and having a threaded por-v tion extending therethrough, and a clamping member pivotally carried by saidsupporting portion and adjustably cngageable byfsaid threaded portion to vary the tension with which a bla-deis held in operative 3f) -position between said supporting portion and said clamping member. u

And a still further object 1s to provide the supporting portion in such a razor as that last described with a convex surface,

and to provide vthe clamping member with a concave surface of similar curvature,

f whereby when the threaded portion of the handle is screwed into a threaded aperture of the clamping member, t.the blade is flexed 40 to varying degrees in order to most eiliciently cut coarse or liebt-weight beards,

and upon the release of the clamping member by the handle, said blade being automatically ejected from the supporting vportion by the inherent resiliency of the blade, after it forces the clamping member outwardly into open osition.

This blade comprises oppositely-extending the line 3- 3 of ll'l ig. 2, with lthe' bladeretaining member indicated in its raised position; Fig. 4 is a top plan partially fragmentary view of the same; Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blade used with this razor; Fig. 6 is a. side elevational partly sectional view of the improved container, particularly adapted for and illustrated as containing the razor illustratedin Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive; and Fig. 7 is a section on the line 7--7 of Fig. 6.

Referring to the drawings, the improved razor-holder comprises a handlel of any desired .shape and configuration, but. which,

however, has a reduced end portion 2, providing'a shoulder A3 in spaced relation with said shoulder, there being a washer-.or annu-- lar radially extending ange 4,beyond which said reduced end extension comprises anexternally threaded end portion 5. A bladesupporting member comprises a body portion 6, having a centrally positioned aperture 7, through which extends the shank portion of the reduced end 2 of the handle, the washer or other form. of iange 4 then lying within a recess 8 in the upper portion of said supporting member, whereby said last-namedk member is atall times in rotatable engagement with the handle. Thev upper surface of this member is furthermore provided with a plurality of lugs 9, adapted to extend normally through spaced apertures 10 in a flexible razor-blade 11, while through the centrally positioned aperture 12 in said blade normally extends t-he threaded end portion 5 parallel cutting edges 13, while its ends are concavely curved at 14. the central portions of said concaved ends being preferably curved in like manner, but upon a smaller radius. for a purpose hereinafter described. Considering the blade-supporting member transversely, the' body portion 6 is provided with laterally extending reduced portions 16, each of which is provided with parallel ears 1'1, through and between which extends a rod"'18, upon which latter are rotatably mounted .alternately positioned rollers 19,

and intermediate spacing rollers 20 of less diameter than said first-named rollers. K without clogging the razor, as might othersuitably spaced apertures in alignment with and normally receiving the free end portions of the lugs 9, and with a centrally positioned, internally threaded aperture 26, which, when the clamping member is in its lowered position as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, is engaged by the threaded 'end portion 5 of the handle to secure the blade in operative position upen'the supporting member.

In the operation of this device,- tlie clamping member is raised into the dotted line position shown in 'F ig. 3, and the blade placed so that the lugs 9 extend through the apertures 10 and the handle extension 5 passes through the central aperture 12. vThe i clam ine' member is then lowered until the -threads of the extension 5 .engage the threads of the aperture 26, where, by rotat- -ing the handle 1 with respect. to the bladesupporting member. theclamping member is drawn more firmly into the position illustrated, lwherein the blade is flexed. This .flexing may be of different degrees as desired by the user for the purpose of' removing either coarse or relatively light beards, as the case may be, and the. blade is held in the' flexed lposition desired by reason of the concaved curvature of the underside of' the clamping member and its oppositely tapering lat-eral portions 27.

For this razor there has been provided a unique box such as is shown in Figs. 6 and 7. This box .primarily is rectangular in shape and comprises a bottom iva-11x30, side Walls 31 and end walls 32. One of the end walls isprovided with a hingedextension 33, which is pivotally connected to a cover comprising a top 34 and side walls 35, comprising extensions of the box walls 31 and end walls `36, and comprising extensions of the box walls 32. In order to align the lid with the body portion of the boX when in j normal closed position. any Isuitable means may be provided, such for instance as an internallypositioned unitarily secured band 37, ,which is secured to the inner surface of [the upper edge portion of' the . walls 31 and 32.

upon which sharp and dull blades 43, on packages containing the same, are positioned within the compartments 44. With this construction, the cut-away portion 39 permits one, after the razor has been removed from the box, to manually withdraw blades from the compartments 44 without difficulty.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire t'o protect by Letters Patent of the UnitedStates is 1. A razor, comprising a handle having an aperture, 'a pin secured in said aperture and provided upon its freely extending end with screw threads and intermediately with a radial flange, a member having an aper-A ture through which the fixed end of said pin between the handle and the flange extends rotatably, said member being provided with spaced lugs, adapted to enter correspondingly positioned apertures ina razor blade supported by said member, a clamping member having a concavely curvedlovver face and a lug extending freely therefrom, pi/votal means to secure 'said lug to vone end lof said first member, said clamping'member' being provided with apertures to receive said firstlugs, and with a threaded aperture adapted to normally receive the threadedl [end of said pin' in adjustable engagement,

rotation of said' handle with 4respect to said clamping member being operative to secure a flexible blade upon said first member with varying degrees of tension and resulting curvature of' the blade, and a retrogression of the handle with respect to said clamping member operating to permit the tension of the blade upon the release .of said clamping member to forcibly oscillate said clamping member outwardly and thereby release the blade from said first member, and a reversible blade normally positioned between said members and when facing in either direction having a blunt end lying in spaced relation with said lug, and being provided with oppositelyl directed cutting edges extending substantially the full length of said members and beyondv the inner surface of the pivot lug.
