DOOR STRUCTURE.

The main object of the invention resides in the provision of a metal door structure of the sealed or weather proofed type which is simple and effective andwell adapted for its purpose with a View toward withstands ing long periods of hard usage without loss of effectiveness. p 1 \Vith this object in View my invention consists in certain features of novelty in the construction, combination. and arrangement of parts by which the said objects and certain other objects hereinafterappearing, are effected, all as fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the'claims.

The frame 2 is formed of suitable sheet metal, such as'cold drawnsteel molded to shape, and is of open-sided outwardly facing channel formation. The threshold is formed of relatively thick sheet metal, such as cold drawn steel, and is constructed 'as follows. See Fig. 3. One sheet metal member 13 thereof is of right angle section the main leg 14 of which is horizontally disposed on the inside of the door 3 and elevated above the bottom of the door, and the other leg 15 ofwhich" is disposed at the side thereof farthest from the doorand extends downwardly for engagement with a shoulder of the part of the masonry wall 1 forming the'sillof the door opening therein and extending below a floor 16 on the inside of the wall. The edge of the member 13 adjacent the door 3 extends along the face of the door when the door is closed, and a second sheet metal member 17 of right angle 2 section has one ofthe feet 18 thereof secured by rivets 19 against the underor inside face of the horizontal legportion 14 of the member 13-inwardly of and in parallelism with'the aforementioned edge of I the member 13 adjacent the door. The other foot 21 of the member 17 extends outwardly v from said edge of the member 13 immediatev purposes of drainage, this portion beingon till the exterior where the assembly is installed in an exterior wall. A metal strip 22 is secured, as by welding, in the angle of the foot 21 of the member 17 and has its outer surface disposed in the plane of the aforementioned edge of the member 13 whereby to form a stop shoulder against which the inner face of the door engages when the door is closed. By reason of the arrangement of the members 13 and 17 an open-sided channel 23 is formed on the threshold at the stop shoulder thereof and extending therealong and facing the closed door.
Thus is formed an open-sided channel on the door frame and threshold extending around the margins of the closed door and facing the inner face or plane of the closed door at the lock side, top and bottom of the door and facing the lock side of the frame at'the hinge side thereof.
As hereinbefore described the door 3 is formed of sheet metal and is of box form, and a marginal flange 24 is formed on the door at the inner face thereof by portions of the metal of the door being bent on themselves in overlying relation. See Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5. The flange 24 projects from the said inner face of the door normal to the plane of the door at the top, bottom, and lock side thereof and projects in the plane of the door at the hinge side thereof. hen the door is closed the flange 24 projects into the channels 11, 12, and 23 and engages a packing 25 of suitable material, such as felt, secured in said channels and extending there along, thereby effectively sealing or weather proofing the door opening, the arrangement of the channels and flange as hereinbefore described permitting opening and closing of the door.
It will be observed that a simple and rugged construction is provided which is well adapted for long usage, and that the packing in the channels is protected against accidental damage or displacement. Furthermore the packing is not exposed and is not liable to be affected by weather conditions.
\Vhile I have herein shown and. particularly described the preferred embodiment of my invention I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes may readily be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, but having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following 1. The combination in a sheet metal door frame and hinged sheet metal door assembly of a marginal flange on the door and formed from the metal thereof and extending along the sides and top at the inner face thereof and projecting in the direction of closing movement of the door at the top and lock side thereof and in the plane of the door at the hinge side thereof, an intermediately disposed inwardly projecting molding on the door frame and formed from the metal thereof and extending along the sides and top thereof, a metal strip secured on said molding and extending therealong and projecting therefrom normal to the plane of the door frame opening in spaced relation vith the frame in the direction of the door and forming a stop therefor and an open sided channel facing the closed door at the top and lock sides of the frame, and an open sided channel formed from the metal of the frame at the hinge side thereof and extending therealong immediately adjacent the side of the molding adjacent the door and facing the lock side of the frame, said flange being adapted to project into said channels when the door is closed for engagement with packing secured therein.
2. The combination in a sheet metal door frame, threshold and sheet metal door assembly, of a marginal flange on the door and formed from the metal thereof and extending along the top, bot-tom, and sides at the inner face thereof and projecting in the direction of closing movementv of the door at the top, bottom andlock side thereof and in the plane of the door at the hinge side thereof, an intermediately disposed inwardly projecting molding on the door frame formed from the metal thereof and extending along the sides and top thereof, a metal strip secured on said molding and extending therealong and projecting therefrom normal to the plane of the door frame opening in spaced relation with the frame in the direction of the door and forming a stop therefor and an open-sided channel facing the closed door at the top and lock sides of the frame, an open-sided channel formed from the metal of the frame at the hinge side thereof and extending along said side immediately adjacent the side of the mold ing adjacent the door and facing the lock side of the frame. a shoulder extending along the threshold and facing the closed door and. forming a stop therefor. and an open-sided channel at said shoulder and extending therealong and facing the closed door, said flange being adapted to project into said channels when the door is closed for engagement with packing secured therein.

and a metal strip secured in the angle of said second mentioned foot of'said second member and having its outer surface disposed inthe plane of said edge of said first mentioned member.
5. The combination with a sheet metal door frame of an intermediately disposed inwardly projecting molding thereon and formed from the metal thereof and extendopening in spaced relation with the frame in the direction of opening movement of a door, hinged to the frame, and having the projecting edge portion thereof bent-at a right angle toward the frame and spaced I therefrom and forming door stop shoulder and an open-sided channel facing the closed door at the top and lock side thereof, and an open-sided channel formed from the metal of the frame at the hinge side thereof andextending along said side immediately adjacent the side of the molding adjacent the door and facing the lock side of the frame, as and for the purpose described.
