WATER-CLOSET BLEND.
Application filed June 29, 1925. Serial No. 10.416,
This invention relates to plumbing fixtures the connection of the closet with the soil pipe andwhich carries the soil from the closet to the stack and so constructed as to provide for the discharge of the waste from the bathtub, lavatory or other fixtures into thebend. The object of the inventionfis to provide a bend of wrought iron construction for, threaded engagement with the various pipejconnections which are usually of cast eliminated.
iron. r I r I V 7 In the presenttype of building construction the use of the old type of cast iron closet bends adapted to be caulked to the piping are inadequate for thepurpose due to the fact of their being readily broken but which, with a wrought iron connection, is largely eliminated. the invention is in the provision of a closet bend of wrought iron-construction that is simple in form adapted for threaded connecprovided with a hub for connection ofa waste piping bend above the level of the water that may flow through the bend thus opening the pocket to the stack above the a level ofthe water in the bend and thus ventmg ofwhat may betermed a pocket with which the waste line is connected. In this present construction I have provided a pocketof somewhat different character Which is not vented through the bend but is directly vented by a vent line to atmosphere or to the'stack, the construction providing a pocket above the possible level of the flow offrom lavatories, smks etc., a'ndas provided the fluid through the bend which pocket is not vented to the discharge stack through the bend; These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and
the preferred form of construction of a closet bend embodying my invention isshown in theaccornpanying drawings in which- Fig. -1 is a side view of my improved bend. Fig. 2 is an end view thereo I r Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectionfshowing A particular feature of clearly the improved arrangement otthe waste piping pocket for the connection oi or the likee with the bend.
As previously stated, thebend hereshown' and described is formed ofwroughtironfor screw-thrcaded connectionw th the piping or fixtures to be connected therewith Th1s,-as
is shown clearly inthe drawing, o'l the usual general form of the bend having the threaded end 1 to receive the fittingwith which the closet may be connected to the bend (not here shown) and at the opposite end is provided wit'hthe threaded hu'b 2 wrhich is connected with the stack by a short piping. 7 On the surface of the bend 1 pro vided what I have termed a pocket 3 which is above the general level of-flow oit' fluid through the bend as will be understood'from h1g3. This pocket. as stated, formed on. the upper side of the bend and on the interior oi the bend 21 depending lip 4 is vprovided at the forward end of the pocket which in reality determines the eifect'of the bore of the bend for the passage of the fluid. At the rear end the pocket also has a second depending flange 5 which terminates above the flange 4t and provides a venting of the pocket to the discharge piping with which so i the bend is connected through the bend itself. The purpose of venting the pocket to atmosphere as has been previously'stated, is l f to prevent a siphonage of the conduits connected with the pocket and the structures herein used for the purpose, although'the connection of the piping to the bend may be above the general 'level of flow of liquid therein, yet upon discharge of the closet this area at the rear of the bend does notalways provide a proper vent space particularly where several such closet bends are con nected with a single stack and flushed simultaneously; This pocket is provided with threaded hubs on opposite sides indicated at 6 and 7, for the connection of wa-ste'piping on the upper surface with a threaded hub 8 to which the-vent pipe may be connected.
bility of closing the pocket to atmosphere and thereby siphoning the waste connections to the pocket as has beenposs ble with such structures in which the pocket was vented through the bend to the stack, By this general arrangement described a movable fitting is provided for connecting the closet, water conduits, and vent at one point in the drainage system of the modern type in which the fittings and pipe connections are screwthreaded.
From the foregoing description it becomes evident that the device is very simple and efiicient in operation, will not easily get out of order, is of comparatively low manufacturing cost, and provides a device which accomplishes the objects described.
Having thus fully described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1, A water closet bend having threaded inlet and outlet ends, said bend being constructed with a pocket in the upper surface between the said ends, the wall defining the pocketat the forward end extending below the wall defining the pocket at the rear end, the said pockethaving hubs for the connection of waste piping, and a vent connection in the upper side thereof.
2. In a. water closet bend having an inlet end for the connection with a closet fixture and an outlet end for connection with a waste conduit and a pocket in the uppersurface thereof above the outlet end of the bend the forward wall of the pocket extending nearer the longitudinal axis of the bend than the rear wall of the pocket, an inlet in communication with the said pocket and a connection for a vent in the upper part of the pocket,
3. A water closet bend having an inlet end, the axis of which is in a vertical plane and adapted for connection with a closet bend, and an outlet end, the axis of which is in a horizontal plane adapted for connection of a conduit therewithin, a pocketforn'ied in the upper surface of the bend above the bore and extending from the side of the inlet end to adjacent the outlet end, the'rear wall of the pocket extending into the bore and the forward wall of the pocket extending to a plane below the plane at which the rear wall terminates and restricting the flow through the inlet to a volume less than that permitted by the terminal per tion of the rear wall, said pocket having hubs in the side thereof for a waste pipe connection and an opening for a vent connection 1n the upper surface. 7
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification. v
