Description
' 1927. AIM] 12 c. H. BOARDMAN TOP SUPPORT FOR CRIBS File d June Patented Apr. 12, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CI iARLES H; BOARDMAN, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
TOP SUPPORT ,FOR CRIBS.
Application filed June 1, 1925. Serial No. 33,929.
to have access to the'interior of the crib without the danger of the top dropping accidentally.
A further object of the invention is to.
provide a device of this character which is extremely slmple in construction, neat 1n appearance and one which will effectively hold the top of the crib in its raised or openposi tion.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a'crib equipped with the device.
Figure 2 is a'fragmentary end view of the same.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the arm connection. v
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view.
Referring to the drawing 1 designates a crib of the enclosed type and 2 the top thereof which is hingedly connected to one of the sides 3 of the crib. In this type of crib wire netting is used on the sides, ends and top to prevent the entrance of insects to the interior of the crib when the top is closed.
To the upper rail 4 of one of the sides of the crib is secured a rod 5, which is formed from suitable gauge material, the ends of which terminate in eyesG through which are passed scre w's 7 to rigidly secure the rod in a'horizontal position on said rail.
This rod is so fashioned as to provide intermediate the eyes 6 a substantially vertical shoulder 8, the purpose-of which will later appear.
To one of the end rails 9 of the top 2 is secured a plate, 10 to which is pivotally connected one, end of an arm 11, the other end of which terminates in an elongated loop 12, said loop being disposed in obtuse angular .relation with respect to the arm.
When the loop 12 is engaged with the lower end of the shoulder 8 the top 2 will be held Tpositively in its raised or open position.- 0 close the top it is only necessary to raise'the top slightly to permit the loop 12 to move rearwardly a short distance, whereupon the arm 11 is grasped and swung forwardly to permit the loop to pass over the shoulder 8. The top is then lowered and the loop 12 will slide forwardly'upon the rod 5 to permit the top to close fully. Owing to the fact that the loop 12 is disposed in obtuse angular relation with respect to the arm 11, said arm will lie in the same horizontal plane as the rod 5 when the top is fully closed.
It will be apparent that as the top 2 is being raised to its open position that the loop 1.2 will slide upon the rod 5 and will drop behind the shoulder 8 with its upper end engaged therewitln'and at which time the arm 11 will be inclined so that when the top is released and the weight thereof imparted to the arm, saidloop will firmly engage the shoulder and effectively support the top in its open position.
hat is claimed is 2+ The combination with a container having a hingedly connected top, of a rod having eyes upon its ends serving to secure the rod upon one end of the container in lateral spaced relation thereto, said rod having a shoulder formed intermediate its ends, an arm having one end pivotally connected with the top and having its other end formed with an angularly disposed closed loop for confining the rod and being capable of sliding from end to end thereon and to intimately engage the shoulder when it is desired to hold the top in an open position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES H. BOARDMAN.
