BOTTLE-WASHING DEVICE...
Application filed August 25, 1925. Serial No. 52,347.
The object of the invention is to provide a brushing apparatus arranged so that the bottom and sides of the interior of a bottle may be rubbed after the application of the device to the bottle; to provide a construction collapsible to permit its insertion into the bottle when the neck is diametrically smaller than the body; and to provide a cap support easily attachable to the mouth of the bottle and adapted when positioned to support the cleaning device.
With this object in view, the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

The invention comprises a central staff or turning member 1 to which is pivoted at the lower end the brush carrying angle bar 2 preferably L-shape in cross section. The brush carrying bar 2 is terminally pivotally connected with similar upright brush carrying bars 3 and the latter are interconnected at their upper ends by a transverse bar 1 having an intermediate pivotal connection. 5
with the staff 1. This construction permits of pivotal movement of the bars 4 and 2 on the staff and thus movement of the bars 3 toward and away from the staff but always in parallelism with the latter.
The bars 2 and 3 support the brushes 6 and 7, the brushes 7 having their bristles carried on twisted wire stems 8 which engage in the notches 9 of the seating brackets 10, which are set in the corners formed by the flanges of the bars 2 and 3, the pivotal connection between said bars being through their contacting flanges.
The cap 11', which is adapted for closing the mouth of the bottle 12 when the device is attached is operatively connected with the brush carrying structure by means of a link 14, the latter being pivotally connected with said brush carrying structure at the pivotal connection between one of the bars 3 and the bar 4 and being connected with the cap 11, as at 15. The staff 1 extends slidably through the cap and as it is moved longitudinally of the stem, the angular position of the bars 4 and 2 on the staff is changed with the result that there is a change in the position of the bars 3 relative to the staff, this because of the link connection between the cap and the brush carrying structure consisting of the bars 2, 3 and 4.
In the application of the device to a bottle, the cap is moved toward the crank 16 by which the staff may be turned, at which time the brush carrying bars are moved toward and eventually contact with the staff thus permitting free insertion of the device through the bottle neck. Thereafter the lowering of the cap into engagement with the mouth of the bottle results in the separation of the bars 3 and brings the brushes 7 into engagement with the side of the bottle and the brush 6 into engagement with the bottom.
A clamping member 17 is employed to maintain the cap in position on the top of the bottle, this clamping member transversely spanning the cap and having its terminal spring clips 18 adapted for springing over the head 19 of the bottle. The crank of the staff may then be used for rotating the device and thus causing the brushes 6 and 7 to wipe the sides and bottom of the bottle. v
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
