STRIP.
Application filed February 2, 1925, Serial No. 6,443. Renewed September 20, 1926.
This invention relates to improvements in weather strips especially adapted for use upon double doors, French windows and the like, although it may be adapted to other types of doors and windows.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a strip which may be located at the meeting edges of the doors to maintain a tight joint and effectually exclude the weather, the construction of the strip permitting of its ready application.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a strip of the character above stated which is simple and durable in construction, may be easily manufactured and which when in use will maintain a tight joint for an indefinite period.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation showing a portion of a pair of doors with the invention applied.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary section illustrating a slightly different form of strip.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a pair of double doors, one of which is designed to have attached. thereto the strip which constitutes the present invention. This strip comprises a core 11 which may be made of wood or any suitable material and which is provided with a flat face 12. The opposite face of the core may be of any suitable configuration.
The core 11 is enclosed within a cover 13 which is preferably formed of sheet metal and which is bent around the core so as to conform to the shape thereof. The edges of the strip are then folded over to provide a clamping portion 14 which is substantially parallel with the flat face 12 of the core,
" while extending from this clamping portion is a flange 15'. The flange is disposed at right angles with respect to the flat face of the core and is formed of two thicknesses of material provided by the extended edges ofv the cover 13, one of these edges being folded over upon the other edge as shown at 16. The flange 15 thus provides an attaching flange and is provided with openings for the passage of screws or other fastening devices 17 by means of which the strip may be'secured in place.
Clampe'd between the clamping portion 14 V and the adjacent flat face of the cover 13 is a strip 18 of rubber or other compressible ma terial. One longitudinal edge of this strip is thus clamped in place while the other edge is adapted to be engaged by the adjacent edge of one of the doors. The flange 15 is preferably set in the edge of the door to which it is attached as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
In Figure 3 there is illustrated a slightly modified form of the invention in which the attaching flange 15 extends at right angles to the flat face of the strip but from one edge of the latter instead of being substantially central as in the preceding form of tie invention. The core 11 is of a slightly different shape so as to adapt it to be secured against the face of a stationary member or frame 19 against which a door, window or other movable member 20 is adapted to en: gage.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A strip of the character described comprising a core having a flat face, a sheet met-a1 cover surrounding the core, the longitudinal edges of the cover being extended to provide a clamping portion spaced from and parallel with the flat face of the core.
a longitudinally disposed attaching flange extending from the free edge of the clamping portion at right angles to the flat face of the core and a compressible strip having one longitudinal edge clamped between the cover and said clamping portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES A. MoMANAMAY.
