ly relates to the driving mechanism for operating a clothes washing device, a clothes wringer, dish washing devices and culinary implements, such as a rotatable slicing disk,
a meat saw, an emery or grinding wheel and a potato parer.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a clothes and dish washing machine wherein a frame structure provided with a partition divides the structure into a water receptacle or tub and a mechanism housing, the dish and clothes washing elements being removably attached to driving members therefor so that either of said elements may be displaced when not in use.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

I Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, the machine embodies a cas ng having side walls 1 and 2, end walls 3 and 4 and a bottom wall 5, this structure be ng supported upon legs 6 to facilitate shifting movements thereof. A vertical transverse partition 7 divides the easing nto a mechanism housing 8 and a clothes and dish washing tub 9 having a metallic lining 10 as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The partition wall 7 extends 'above the upper edge; of the side and end walls of the oils mg while an upright wall 11 arranged adjacent the end wall 4 is connected to the upper end of the partition wall 7 by the shelf 12 shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Entrance to the mechanism housing 8 through the opening in the side wall 2 that is closed by the hinged door 14; retained in a closed position by the cleat 15. The wall 11 of the casing is spaced inwardly of the adjacent end wall 4 as shown in Fig. 3 to provide a ledge or support for the platform 16 for purposes presently to appear.
An electric motor 17 is supported upon the end of the platform 16 adjacent the side wall 1 of the casing and has a chain connection 18 with the sprocket wheel 19 that is secured to the adjacent projecting end of the shaft 20 that is journaleddn the walls 7 and 11 adjacent the upper ends thereof. A clothes wringing frame embodying side bars 21 connected by a cross head 22 has the lower ends of the side bars hinged as at 23 to the opposite sides of the shelf 12, wringer rolls 24 being journaled in the side bars while the latter are further braced by the connecting rod 25. Meshing gears 26 and 27 are secured to adjacent ends of the rolls 24: and the lower gear 27 meshes with the gear 28 fixed to the shaft 20 within the mechanism housing and projecting through the slotted opening 29 as shown in Fig. 2. When the clothes wringer frame is out of use, the same is moved upon its hinged mounting 23 to flatly rest uponthe shelf 12 and when raisedas illustrated in the drawings, the spring latch carried by "the shelf 12 and shown in detail in Fig. 9 engages the lug 31 on one of the side bars 21. A pair of spaced hooks 32 carried by one end of the shelf adjacent the clothes wringer frame removably supports a clothes receiving basket. When the shaft 20 is rotated by the motor 17 and with the clothes wringer frame perpendicularly positioned as shown in Fig. 3, the gear 28 upon the shaft 20 meshing with the gear 27 upon the lower roll 24 rotates said roller, and when the wringer frame is out of use and moved to a horizontal position resting upon the shelf 12, the gear 27 is displaced from the driving gear 28.
A shaft 33 journaled in the walls 4 and 7 within the mechanism housing 8 adjacent the lower end thereof has a detachable connection with a driven shaft in the tub 9 that has a clothes washing member keyed thereto, this construction being more clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 8. Rotary motion of the shaft 20 is communicated to the shaft 33 by the provision of sprocket wheels 34 and 35, respectively'fixed to said shaft and over which a sprocketchain 36 passes. A bearing 37 carried by the partition wall 7 rotatably supports one end of the shaft 33 and said shaft end is provided with an internally threaded end openin socket 38. The rod 39 having a clothes was ing member 40 splined thereon as at 41 has its opposite ends journaled in the end wall 3 and bearing 37 in the a partition wall 7 one end of the rod being provided with a threaded stud extension 42' to be received in the threaded socket 38 of the shaft 33 by the application of power to the slotted opposite end 43 of said rod, :1 face plate 44 overlying the outer end of said rod and retaining the same in position. It will. therefore, be seen that rotary motion of the shaft 33 is communicated to the rod 39 that carries the clothes washing element 40 and when it is desired to remove the clothes washing element, the face plate 44 is removed and upon rotating the rod 39 the threaded stud extension 42 is disengaged from the socket 38 in the shaft 33 to permit the rod to be moved outwardly of the end wall 3 of the casing with the clothes washing element 40 elevated and removed thru the open upper end of the tub 9.
A sectional shaft 45 is journaled in the partition wall 7 and end wall 4 of the casing intermediate the shafts 20 and 33 and has a sprocketwheel 46 fixed thereto that is engaged by one side of the chain loop 36 in the manner of a belt tightener while the clutch members 47 associated with the sectional shaft 45 controls rotation of the outer end 45 of said shaft that extends thru the end wall 4 and an exteriorly positioned housing 47. The end of the shaft'45 journaled in the partition wall 7 is supported in a bearing 48, similar to the bearing 37 and said shaft end is provided with aninternally threaded end socket 49 to receive the threaded stud extension '50 upon the rod 51 that carries a relatively large absorbent member 52, such as a sponge or the like. A rod53 journaled in the partition wall 7 beneath the rod 51 is secured in position by the nut 54 engaging the threaded end 55 thereof as shown in Fig. 8 and said rod 53 is similarly surrounded by a sponge 56 with the peripheral surfaces of the two sponges 52 and 56 constantly in engagement. Removable dish supporting pins 57 arranged in pairs'at opposite sides of the sponges 52 and 56 as. shown in Fig. 4 are removably secured as at 58 in the partition wall 7 as shown in Fi 3. The sponges 52 and 56 being immers in water, a dish supported upon the pins 57 is passed between said sponges for a thorough washing thereof. The shaft 45 being positively driven, the sponge 52 strenuously wipes over a dish for cleaning the same.
A pair of dish drying sponges is supported in the partition wall 7 above the tub 9 as shown in Figs. 3 and 7 and the mounting 59 for the rod 60 that carries a drying sponge 61 is similar to the mountings for the rod 51. A second rod 62 carrying a drying sponge 63 is mounted as at 64 in the partition Wall similar to the rod 63, the drying sponge 61 being positively rotated by the s aft 20, dish supporting pins 65 associated with the drying sponges 61 and 63 being rem-ovably mounted as at 66 in the partition wall 7. It Will therefore, be seen that when the dish washing machine is in use, the Washing sponge 52 is positively driven by the shaft 45 while the drying sponge 61 is positively driven by the shaft 20, the pins 57 and 65 supporting dishes while being passed between the washing and drying sponges respectively. A drain valve 67 is provided for the tub 9 when desired.
The end section 45 of the sectional shaft 45 is employed for operating a series of culinary implements and such ends within the housing 47 as shown in Fig. 6 is provided with a fixed sprocket wheel 68 over which a sprocket chain 69 passes for connecting the shaft end 45 to the shaft 70 journaled in the outer end of the housing 47 andalso in the bracket bearing 71. The shaft 70 has different devices secured thereto, such as a slicing disk 72, a circular saw 73, a grinding or emery wheel 74 and a potato parer or the like 75. By operating the clutch 45*, the outer end 45 of the sectional rod is locked to the driven section 45 for transmitting rotary motion to the "shaft 70 and the several implements carried thereby. As shown in Figs. 1 and 6, an article or tool rest 76 is carried by the end of the housing 47 adjacent the shaft 70 to facilitate use of the implements upon said shaft.
From the above detail description of the device, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless .to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
