ROCKING-HORSE TOY.

Mv invention is a rocking horse toy mounted on wheels so that it may be drawn along the ground and in such movement the horse will rock.

Referring first to the construction of l and 2, a suitable plat-form 1 has braces 2 in which re mounted cranks 3 having wheels l thereon. Either one or both of the wheels of each set are rigidly connected to the crank. A stanchion 5 extends upwardly from the platform 1 and supports a rocking horse designated generally by the numeralh. this being pivoted on a pintle bolt 7. The body of the horse is designated by the numeral 8, having front legs 9 and hind legs 10. Each of these pairs of legs are provided with pivot pins 11 securing the legs to the body of the horse. the foot of the legs being connected to the crank axles. There may be utilized a suitable cord such as 12 to draw the device.
The toy of Figs. 1 and 2 is intended for adily undera simple type and a small toy to he made cheaply, and hence is not provided with steering wheels. The device will be of light weight and in order to turn a corner the child will merely pull the front wheels sideways. This device however, may be made of sufficient size for a child to ride on if desired. The front and back wheels will slip one pair relative to the other so that the cranks will be maintained in substantially their correct position to give the horse a rocking movement due to the rotation of the wheels.
In the construction of Figs. 8, i and 5, the platform is provided with a swivelled front axle 13. this having a king pin lei so that the device may be steered. The back Wheel construction and the connection of the hind legs to the rear axle is substantially the same as described in connection with Figs. 1 and 2. In this construction however, there is a downwardly depending bracket 15 secured to the platform, this having an oscillating crank 16 journaled therein to which the foot ends of the front legs 9 are connected.
The front axle 13 may have a steering cord, such as the cord 17, attached thereto by nails or eyelets 18. This cord is shown leading over the horses neck and may be grasped by a child to steer the wheels or by pulling the cord forward over the horses head the child may pull the toy and at the same time steer the wheels and turn the corners.
The rocking horse of Figs. 3, 4 and 5 is intended to allow a child to ride on the horse. it will be seen that when this is drawn along the ground that the hind legs cause a rocking of the horse on the stanchion 5 and that the front legs will have an OS- cillating up and down movement simulating to a certain extent that of the hind legs.
ln this type of construction the child may rock the horse by throwing its weight backwardly and forwardly and hence by means of the hind legs actuate the rear wheels and drive the vehicle structure forwardly.
It will be seen by the above description that I have provided a toy which for a simple device closely simulates the action of a galloping horse and is such as to appeal to children either as a simple toy to be drawn along the ground or as a larger toy on which a child may ride.
It is manifest that the design may be considerably changed in general construction and in specific details to suit difierent types of mounting and a different type of toy. Such changes, however, would be within the spirit of my invention as set forth in the de scription, drawings and claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim is: r
1. A rocking horse toy comprising in combination a vehicle-like structure having a pair of Wheels with a crank connected to said wheels, a horse-like body structure pivotally mounted to oscillate, a pair of legs connected between the horse body and the crank, a sec ond pair of legs pivotally connected to the horse body, and means to oscillate said legs.

A rocking horse toy comprising in combination a vehicle structure having a pair of wheels with a crank forming the axle, a horse-like body structure pivotally mounted on the vehicle, a pair of legs pivoted to the 7 bination a vehicle structure having rear wheels with an axle in the form of a crank, a pair of front steering wheels, a stanchion,
a rocking horse body pivoted to the stan chion, a pair of hind legs pivoted to the body and connected to the crank, a bracket depending from the platform, an oscillating crank connected thereto, front legs pivoted to the horse body and connected to the oscillating crank. and front steering wheels operatively connected to the platform.
