UNITED STATES BROER G. RADEMAGHER, OF BURR, NEBRASKA.
WAGON-BOX SUPPORT.
Application filed January 8, 1923.
My invention is an anti-wear device for wagon boxes and its principal object is to provide a spacer or shim for interposition between the underface of the wagon box and the supporting bolster.
A further object of the invention is to provide an anti-wear device which will take up the wear due to the friction between the wagon and supporting bolster so as to obviate wear of the wagon box proper.
Further the invention contemplates a spacer or shim for interposition between the wagon bolster and wagon box to take up the wear between the parts and is such as to be readily removed when worn and a new one arranged in its place.
These and like objects of the invention will be better understood as the description proceeds and as is specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is an end elevation of a wagon box and bolster with the invention associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same, and
Figure 4: is a plan View of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein similar characters of reference denote like parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates the usual wagon bolster connected to the wagon, not shown, by the vertical pivot 6 and includes upstanding end members 7. The wagon box is designated at 8 and is held against cndwise movement by the end members 7.
My invention consists of a relatively thin longitudinal panel or shim 9 constructed from metal or other material having the necessary wear qualities. The shim 9 is formed with rectangular end members 11 having notches 12 in their outer longitudinal edges which receive the upstanding end members 7 Serial No. 61 1,353.
The device is arranged upon the upper face of the bolster 5 and the underface of the box 8 with the bottom of the latter secured to the end members 11 by fastenings 13. With my device secured between the bolster 5 and the wagon box 8 it will be seen that the bottom of the wagon box will be protected against the wear due to the swinging movement of the bolster 5. When the device becomes worn it may be readily removed and a new one arranged in its place. Moreover the device may be used upon any wagon employing a set of bolsters and can be applied thereto :without disassembling the wagon, it being only necessary to remove the wagon box and then secure the latter to the end members 11.
While I have shown and described the pre ferred form of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown nor to the combination and arrangement of parts.
WVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A wagon box support comprising a shim plate having its opposite side surfaces at all points lying in parallel planes and all portions of the plate being of the same transverse thickness, the plate being provided at its side edges and at its end with angularly disposed ears extending inwardly from the end edges of the plate, the ears having both openings located at equal. distances beyond the opposite sides of the median longitudinal dimension of the plate and between the end edges thereof and the plate being pro vided at its end edges with outwardly disposed spaced lugs, the spaces between the lugs forming recesses and said recesses being alined with the median longitudinal dimension of the plate.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
BROER G. RADEMACHER.
