Description

Patented M... 1927.
UNITED STATES I 33m G. LANCE, OF FULTON; CALIFQBHIA.
STEEL-WOOL HOLDER.
' Application filed February 5, 1923. Serial No. 617,021.
This invention relates to a holder for steel-wool .or other scrubbing material and has for its objects to provide a convenient means to hold the scrubbing material, to
5 simplify the construction of devices of this kind and to provide means whereby the scrubbing material may be removed and a new supply secured to the holder.
. With this and other objects in view which 1 will appear later in the specification, the invention consists of the novel features of construction illustrated in the drawings and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 '15 is a side elevation showing in dotted lines themeans for securing the scrubbing material. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on dotted lines a-a, Fig. 4. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one set of hooks for securing the scrubbing material and Fig. 4 is a top view of the holder.
Referring to the drawings a knob 1 is formed of any suitable material and is provided with a concave face on which soap 3 is placed. A pad of scrubbing material such as steel-wool for example, is secured to the concave face of the holder by means of hook arrangements 4 and 5 and the soap is held between the face of the knob and tbe scrubhing material.
The hook means are composed of two sets, 4 and 5. In some instances, if desired, only one set inay be used. Hook means 4 is spring like in its action and is secured to the holder in grooves 8. It will be noted that when this hook means is pressed down the claws' provided on its free ends will open outward as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and when released will spring back to its original position, imbedding a part-of the scrubbing material into grooves 9.
Hook means 5 is' substantially U-shaped but with its free ends bent to form claws. It
acts as a lever with the slotted holes 6 and 7 provided in the holder as its fulcrum points. Its movement is shown by dotted line in 1, and it is moved-to this position before securing the scrubbing material. When it is in the position shown by dotted lines the claws slant downward and to secure the scrubbing material the-holder is my hand.
pressed onto the scrubbing material and at the same time pushed forward which will cause the claws to penetrate the scrubbing material; it is then brought to its normal position as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. It will be noted that the claws of hook means 4 are imbedded in grooves 9 and the claws of hook means 5 are drawn into the concave face or theholder when they are in their normal pos1tion which is to prevent theclaws from coming mto contact with and scratching the object being cleansed or polished.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. A holder of the kind described, com
rising a body having its lower face concaved, a spring clamping member straddling said body and provided at each end.
with an inwardly directed hook for clampmg cleansing material against the concave face of said body, said body being provided with spaced slotted openings therethrough, and an auxiliary clamping member of substantially inverted U-shape having its legs passed through the slots of said body, and provided with hooked ends for clamping the cleaning material against said body.
2. A holder of the kind described, comprising a body provided on its oppositesides with slots extending upwardly into the body and intersecting adjacent the top of the body, said body being further providedlwith a concave lower face, a spring member located in said slots and'straddling said body and provided at its ends with inwardly directed hooks for clamping a cleaning material against said body, downward pressure on the spring member acting to disengage the hooks from the cleaning material.
3. A holder of the kind described, comprising a body having spaced openings therethrough, a clamping member of substantially inverted U-shape leaving its legs passed through the openings in said body and rovided with hooked endsfor clamping t e cleaning material against said body.
Intestimony whereof I have hereunto set.-
BEULAH G. LANCE.
