Description

lama Min. 1-, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE.
UNITED STATES ennrnunn AJlAcVEY, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CIGARETTE BOX.
Application filed September 22, 1925. Serial No. 57,923.
Thisinvention relates to certain improvements in cigarette boxes and it is an object 1915 the invention to provide a device of this character adapted to contain a package of cigarettes but wherein the use of a sliding tray is omitted.
Another object of the invention is to proin the event such -package should be tightly wedged or stuck within the box.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved cigarette box whereby certain 1mportant advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and -advanta-' geous for use. as Wlll be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel'features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a sectional perspective view illustrating a box constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a :view in plan. of the blank from-which the box as illustrated in Figure 1 is produced;
Figure 3 is a view in bottom plan of the device as disclosed in Figure 1;
Figure4 is a perspective sectional View illustrating a box constructed in accordance with a further embodiment of. my invention; I
Figure 5 is a view in plan of the blank from which the box as illustrated in Figure 4 is produced.
As disclosed in Figures 1, 2 and- 3 of the drawings, myimproved box is formed from a blank B scored on the lines a to provide a face wall 1,-the side walls 2 and a second face wall 3, one of the side walls 2 being provided with a flap. 4 adapted to bepasted. .along a free marginal portion of the second face Wall 3 whereby the box is maintained in desired assembly. One end of the face wall 1 is provided With an extended flap 5 to provide a bottom wall of the box, said V flap 5 being provided with an extension lie 6 adapted to extendwithin the assemble box between the face wall 3 and the applied package. This end flap 5 is provided in its central portion with an openin 7 to provide means whereby the package within the box may be readily forced outwardly through the opposite end to facilitate the extraction.
of a cigarette and particularly in the event the package is wedged or stuck within the ox. i The opposite end of the face wall 1 is provided with a flap 8 adapted to close the adjacent end of the box, said flap 8 being contifnued by an elongated flap 9 which is adapted to have its outer or free end portion inserted between the flap 10 and a block or pack 11 ofmatches. This flap 10 is arranged at the end of the face wall 3 adjacent to the end flap 5. This flap 10 is relativelyshort and is returned to overlie the outer face of the adjacent wall 3 and maintained in such position by a wire staple 12 or the like. Inserted between the flap 10 andthe adjacent face wall 3 is the block or pack 11 of matches, the staple 12 or the like also serving to maintain said block or pack 11 in applied position.
The outer face of the flap 10 is provided witih an igniting surface 14 of suitable materla In the embodiment of my'invention as illustrated in Figures 4: and 5, the blank B" is divided by the scored lines a to provide a face wall 1', the side walls 2' and the second face wall 3. An end of the face wall 1 is provided with the flap 5 having the opening 6' and the extended flap 7. The face wall 3 at its end adjacent to the flap 5 is .provided with the flap '10 which is adapted to be returned to overlie the outer face of the wall 3 and has secured therebet-ween a match pack or block 11 in the same manner as hereinbefore set forth. The opposite end of the face wall 3 is provided with a relatively long flap 9f the free end portion of which being adapted to be engaged between the flap 10 and the match block or pack 11. The
From the foregoing description it is thought. to be obvious that a cigarettebox constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it ma be assembled and operated, and it will a so be obvious that my invention is suslll) , ment, to one of the face walls to maintain the box in assembly, one of said face walls being provided at one end with an extended flap to form an end closing flap, an extension flap at the outer-end of the end closin flap, said end closing flap being formed wit an opening, the opposite end of said face wall being provided with an extended end closing flap, said extended flap continued'by an elongated flap, the second face wall being rovided with a flap returned to overlie t e same,
means for maintaining said flap in such position, the free end lportion of the elongated flap being insertib e between said returned flap and they second face wall to hold the elongated flap in closed position, said re-' turned flap bein at the end of the box provided with thee osing flap having the openmg.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature' L H GERTRUDE A; MaoVEY.
