TUBBING.
Application filed August 24, 1921, Serial No. 495,089, and in Germany August 29, 1919. Renewed January (GRANTED umpnn THE PROVISIONS or THE AcT or MARCH 3, 1921, 41 arm. n, 1313.
My invention refers to mining plant and more especially to tubbings and its particular object is to provide tubbings allowing of making a shaft lining which offers greater resistance against all strains acting thereon than the tubbings hitherto known.
As is well known to those skilled in the art, the cast iron tubbings hitherto in use, although being very resistive against external pressure, do not in like degree resist internal pressure, and in consequence thereof they cannot withstand the stress placed upon them by irregular external pressure which tends to bulge in the lining in some places and correspondingly to make it burst in others.
In order to obviate these drawbacks I construct the'tubbings, which are preferably made of cast steel, in such a manner that they offer the same resistance to external and internal pressure, respectively. To this end I employ tubbings composed of segments each of which is formed of two concentric ring segments connected with one another in a suitable manner.
IVith tubbings of the kind aforementioned a compound shaft lining can be obtained by connecting the concentric segments by openwork ribs and ramming-concrete into the intervening space, vertical reinforcing members being inserted if necessary.
In the drawings affixed to this specification and forming part thereof a tubbing embodying my invention is illustrated by way of example. In the drawings Fig. l is a vertical section of a plurality of tubbing segments assembled into a shaft lining, while Fig. 2 is a plan of a. single segment.
Referring to the drawings, a is the outer and Z) the inner one of the two concentric ring segments forming the tubbing segment,.
0 and 05 being the horizontal and. vertical ribs, respectively, which connect the two ring segments. In the modification disclosed in the drawings the inner ring segments 1) are shorter in axial direction than the outer ones and are suspended from these latter by means of the vertical ribs al, in order to allowof inserting intermediate ring segments f which may be removed in order to render the intervening space accessible for the purpose of rendering the tubbingwate tight and of filling it with concrete. inner ring segment preferably has thicker walls or reinforcing ribs in order to make it as resistive as the outer one. In order to secure the tubbing against bending, vertical reinforcing bars 6 may be provided. an is part of the continuous concrete filling.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
I claim:
1. In a metal tubbing in combination, two concentric cylinder segments, open-work ribs connecting same and a continuous concrete filling in the space intermediate said concentric segments enveloping said ribs.
2. In a metal tubbing in combination, two concentric cylinder segments, open-work ribs connecting same, a continuous concrete filling in the space intermediate said concentric segments enveloping said ribs and vertical reinforcing members extending through said concrete filling.
L In testimony whereof I afllx my signature.
VVILHELM BREIL.
