is pivoted, adapted to be retained in loading position, and also adapted to be up-ended or overturned for the dumping operation, after which the overturned scoop is conveyed to the place of excavation and manually returned to operative position for loading. 'Means are provided for guiding the pivoted scoop as it is being adjusted for loading, and bracing it against lateral move ment or displacement during the loading operation as well as during the time it is being used to convey a load to the dump. The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts where by a well braced, strong, and durable implement of this character is provided, which may be operated with facility, and in which worn parts may be replaced with convenience and in an inexpensive manner. In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are combined and arranged according to the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.

In carrying out my invention I preferably utilize a drag-frame or sled, comprising a pair of spaced, longitudinally extending" runners 1 and 2 fashioned from angle plates, and rigidly joined at the rear of the implement by a transversely extending angle brace 3 bolted at its ends to the rear ends to the implement. p
The pivoted scoop is of the standard type having a bottom plate 6, rear upright plate 7 and a forwardly turned upper flange 8, with the two end walls or sides 9, 9. On the outer sides of the end walls 9 are secured transversely extending, alined-trunnions 10 that are journaled in bearing blocks 11, secured at the undersides of the top bars of the runners, to permit the scoop to be tilted as desired and to be overturned or upended in dumping its load.
The implement is drawn by one or two horses which are hitched thereto by means of the attaching hooks H, H, bolted to the outer sides of the runners and located at the frontthereof as seen in Figure 1.
For guiding the scoop as it is being adjusted on its pivots, and to retain it against lateral movement and against twisting strains on the trunnions, I provide forked guide lugs '12 bolted at the exterior of the end plates or walls of the scoop and projecting beyond the forward edges of the walls. These forked guide lugs co-act with a pair of vertically arranged guide plates 13, one of which is bolted at the forward end of the runners, and they are provided with arcuate edges on lines struck from the'axes of the trunnions as centers. As the scoop partakes of a pivotal movement with relation to the drag frame or sled the forked lugs ride over the arcuate edges guiding the movement of the scoop and preventing any wabbling or lateral displacement of the scoop.
At the rear of the scoop an operating handle 14 is secured by brackets or braces 15, and a cord or cable 16 is attached near the end of the handle for use when the latter is being used as a lever to return the overturned scoop to normal working position.
The scoop may be turned on its pivot for adjusting the front cutting edge of the bot tom-plate 6 with relation to the ground level, by the use of a lever 17 rigidly secured at the rear of the sled, and provided with a spring actuated latch lever 18 and latch 19 for coaction with an arcuate rack 20 bolted to the scoop. By the use of the lever 17 the sled also may be tilted forwardly on. its shoes in the manipulation of the implement for loading, and dumpingthe load. The
