Description
Feb. 22, 1927 a CORDES I HEADLIGHT ATTACHMENT Filed Jan. 23. 1926 6/LA5 CORDES Patented Feb. 22, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SILAS connns, or norsn, IDAHO.
HEADLIGHT ATTACHMENT.
Application filed January 2a, 1926. Serial No. 83,240. I
This invention relates to a device for controlling the rays of an automobile headlight o'r spotlight.
The object of this invention 1s to construct a device capable of attachment to the conventional headlight or spotlight of a motor vehicle of such a character that the rays from the lights will be projected in a,-
definite direction and within a confined field.
Another object of this invention is, to provide a device of the character noted which will embody a construction of artistic and ornamental form which can be cheaply manufactured for application to any type of Other objects will more clearly hereinafter appear by reference to the specification and attached drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding arts throughout the several views, in whic Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp showing one form of-the invention in position in section;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the device shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows in elevation a modified arrangement of the partitions;
irays from the lamp.
Figures 4 and 5 are'similar views wherein the partitions are formed of sheet metal. As shown in Figure 1, a cylindrical body of sheet metal is provided formed at its front edge with a plurality of spaced projections 1 upon which the transparent slats or partitions 2 are arranged. These slats are made of suitable glass and may be of any or slats 2 will control to a' la'rge extent the projection of. the light rays and with this 'in mind the upper slats-are made of gradually increased widths. By this arrange:
The projections l abut Obviously, the Width off-these partitionsment the rays from the upper portion of the lens of the lamp which have a tendency to be more glaring because of their elevated positions are relatively more confined.
The portion of the cylindrical body which extends rearward of the partitions may be of any desired diameter to facilitate the application to a lamp body and when applied thereto the lugs 5 act as stops to position the. same.
In Figure 3' a modification is shown ineleyation wherein cross-slats are provided made from substantially the same material as the partitions shown in Figure 1. In 1 iguresfl' and 5 these partltions or slats are shown in variegated form constructed of sheet metal and designed to present an orna-- mental or artistic appearance and at the same time provide or the control of the rays as in the other form.
Obviously, numerous designs can be presented involving the same principle and accomplishing the same result to different degrees. Also any suitable means may be provided for securing the present attachment in position on a lamp and the rear portion of the cylinder which encircles the front of a lamp may be modified as deemed necessary to permit application i \Vhat I claim as my'invention and'desire to secure by Letters Patentlof the United States is: 1
1. In a ray control device, a cylindrical body formed with a flange at its outeredge,
a plurality of stops projecting from said body at 'intermediate'points in its circum ference, a plurality of transparent partitions arranged between said stops and said flange I and spacing means for said partitions.-
2. In a ray COIltI'OlClBVlCQ, a cylindrical body formed with a flange at its outer edge,.
a plurality of stops projecting from said body at intermediate points in its circumference, a plurality of partitions arranged between said stopsand said flange, and spacing means for said partitions including spaced extensions projecting from said stops, and other spaced extensions abutting against the flange.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature,
suns oonnns.
