Application filed May 27, 1925. sen-a1 No. 3,255;
This invention relates to improvements in feeders, drinking fountains and the like forpoultry use and contemplates the provision of a base having standards extending 5 upwardly, from diametrically opposite sides upon its upper side and which have secured to their inner sides and adjacent their upper 7 ends, a circular band or rim which is adapted to receive an inverted jar or receptacle there- 10 between in order that the same may be held in this position while its neck will be positioned within a bowl or the like arranged upon the upper side of the base or platform.
Another object of my invention isthe pro- 1 vision of pairs of spring clips arranged upon the band or rim and which are adapted to have their upper ends engaging the outer side walls of the receptacle or iar while their lower ends are inwardly offset and engage the shoulder of the jar or receptacle in order that the necks thereof will be spaced from the bottom of the bowl or the like arranged upon the top of the base. i V r With the above and other objects in view,
the invention further'includesthe following novel features and detailsof construction,
. to'be hereinafter more fully described,'illus-- trated in the accompanymgdrawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
,In the drawings:'-
. Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention.
, Figure 21is a transverse section taken on line 2 2 of Figure -1. i v v Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View.
V Figure L is asimilar vertical sectional view taken upon the opposite side of my invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a supporting base or platform having a pair of standards 11 arranged upon the top of the supporting base or platform 10 and which 12 andioutwa-rdly-extending lower portions 13 which lie flush with the upper side ofthe supporting base or platform 10 and which are rigidly secured thereto through the instrumentality of rivets 14: and have their opposite ends bent upon themselves as at 15 within slotted portions provided in the base 10. A bowl 16 is arranged upon the top of the supporting base or platform 10 and having its opposite sides, engaging the inner sides of the inwardly offset portions 12 of the standards 11 While a pair of retaining clips includes inwardly offset portions I 17 which have their lower portions riveted or otherwise secured ly opposite sidesfof the supporting base or platform 10 'and have their lower free ends extendingfthrough slotted portions provided in the supporting base or'platform and-lying flush with the bottom of the supporting base or platform 10 as clearly illustrated ,at' 19 in- Figure" 4 of the drawings, while the upper ends of the retaining clips 17' are inwardly offset as at 20 and which engage the'upper edges or periphery of the bowl.16 whereby the same is held against lateral movement in alldirections. Secured to the inner sides and adjacent the upper ends of the standards 11 is'arflat band or rim 21 having its opposite edges bent inwardly and lying fiush 'witliit's inner sidewalls. i
A pair of substantially inverted Urshaped wires having their lower free end portions extending through channels provided between the rear'sides of the band or rim 21 and their inwardly bent edges while'the lower free ends of the substantially inverted U-shaped wires 22am inwardly offset as at- 23 while theircupper ends are bent inwardly as at 18 ,at'diametricali in a similar manner. An inverted receptacle j or jar 24 is adapted to have its neck 25ja'nd shoulders 26 extend between the inner side walls of the flat band or rim 21 and adapted to have the substantially inverted 'U-shaped wires 22 engage their outer sides while the inwardly offset portions 23 upon'the lower free ends of the wire strips 22 will engage the shoulders 26 ofthe jar or receptacle 2 1 in orderthat the neck 25 thereof will be held in spaced relation with respect to the bottom of the bowl 16.
In the mode of operation of the present mvention' 1t'is clearly apparent and manistandards 11' that the diametrically opposite 'slde of the'bowl16 will be'engaged to hold the same against lateral lmovement in one "direction 'while the retaining clips 17 will restrict its movement and hold the same fest that owing to the inwardly oifset portlons 12 provided upon the inner sides of the arrangement of the flat band orrim2l upon the inner sides and .adj acent the upper ends of the standards 11 and so contortioned as to receive the jar or reservoir 24: between its inner side walls and adapted to support thereon a pair of the substantiallyinverted U-shaped wires 22 which in turn engage the outer side walls of the jar 24 and which in turn have their inwardly offset free end-portions 23 engaging the shoulders-26 of thejar poultry feedingand the like, that the chickens will not be permitted to enter the bowl and pollute the contents of the bowl 16.
It is further to be noted that in the process of -filling or refilling the jar or reservoir 24, that the said jar is arranged in an upright position, after which the neck thereof is received. within and lying flush with the bottom of the bowl 16, obviously the bowl 16 is held rigidly upon the supporting 'base or platform and the band or rim 21 is received upon the jar or reservoir 24; the jar or reservoir-2 1- is then inverted and raised to the positions as clearly illustrated in Figures 3 and a of the drawing so that the contents thereof may flow into the bowl16. 7
The invention is. susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims, v
Having described my invention what is claimed is: Y 1. A feeder of the character described comprising a platform, standards. carried upon the upper side at'diametrically opposite sides thereof and including inwardly offset portions adjacent their lower ends, a bowlarranged upon the upper side of the platform and having its opposite side edges frictional'ly engaging the inwardly offset portions of the standards, a band secured to the inner sides and ad acent the upper free ends of the standards, wires arranged upon the band; at diametrically opposite sides thereof, and an inverted jar arranged within the band and having its neck extending within the bowl and restricted by the wires.
cry of the bowl, a circular band having its outer sides secured to the inner side and adjacent the upper ends of the standards, a pair of substantially inverted U-shap'ed wires having their lower free ends inwardly offset and intermediately supported upon the band and at diametrically opposite sides thereof, and an inverted received within the band and having its shoulder engaging the inwardly offset portions of the substantially inverted .U-shaped wires for restrict- 1 ing the entrance of its neck within the bowl.
A feeder of the character described comprising a platform, apair of standards extending upwardly upon diametrically opposite sides thereof and including inwardly offset 'portions'a'djacent their lower ends, a bowl arranged upon the upper side of the platform and. having its opposite side edges engaging the inner sides of the inwardly offset portions of'the standards a pair of i retaining clips arranged upon the opposite sides of the platform and having their upper ends bent vover and frictionally engaging the periphery of the bowl, a relatively flat circularband having its opposite. edges bent inwardly upon themselves, and secured to the inner sides and adjacent the upper ends of the standards, a pair of substantiallv inverted U-shaped wires having their lower free ends extending through pairs of channel members provided between the inner sides and inwardly bent edges of the band and their lower extremities being inwardly offset, and an inverted jar received within the inner sides of the band and hav- 7 its shoulder engaging the inwardly 0&-
set portions of the wires for restricting the entrance of its neck within the bowl.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
