IMPROVEMENT IN SUMMER-*STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,612, dated April 6, 1875; application filed November 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIZABETH HAwKs, of the city of Troy, county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented a Summer Attachment for Stoves, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to certain improvements in stoves of the class known as stoveattachments used in connection with ordinary cook-stoves.
My invention has for its object to produce a cheap, convenient, and efficient attachment for cook-stoves to be used during the summer months 5 and to this end my invention consists in the combination, with a stove in which the bodyis constructed with an imperforate bottom and provided with a draft-opening, of a drum and a smoke-pipe which is connected with the stove-pipe ordinarily employed. The said drum rises from the body of the stove and is made with a flat top surface, in order that it may be employed as a shelf on which to placearticles to be heated.
Prior to my invention, a shelf or hot-air chamber having a flat top has been mounted upon the stove-pipe extending from the stove, and, in another instance, an outward swell has been imparted to the top plate of an ordinary stove, said swell being of conoidal form, from the apex of which extended the stove-pipe. Such do not exhibit the features and purposes of my invention, which, as it is apparent, consists in providing a stove having an imperforate body and draft-opening with a hot-air chamber rising from the top plate of a stove, and having a fiat top for receiving and supporting dishes and other articles, from the side of which chamber extends the pipe-collar or stove-pipe.
In the accompanying drawings the figure the top portion of the body of the stove rises a hot-air drum, which opens into the fire-box of the stove, said drum being constructed with a flat top surface, upon which articles may be placed in order to heat the same, or to preserve them in a heated condition. The draft or smoke escape-pipe D projects from the dram and is adapted to be connected with the ordinary stove-pipe.
The stove, as above described, is designed to be used upon the usual cooking-stove, in order to form a small stove for use during the summer months, but it is evident that it can be used in any desired position.
What I claim is- The combination, in a stove in which the body is constructed with an imperforate bottom and provided with a draft-opening, of the hot-air drum 0 and pipe D, the said drum rising from the body of the stove and constructed with a flat top adapted to form a heating-shelf, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I havehereto subscribed my name.
ELIZABETH HAWKS.
