ln the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1() generally indicates a Conventional type of storage tank such as is usually employed for the storage of gasoline or the like. It is customary to provide a tank of this chan acter with an outlet sleeve as shown at 11, this sleeve beingl usually internally screw threaded for the purpose of receiving a suitable cover. Most of these covers are constructed with cylindrical bodies as at 12 provided with an over-hanging cap at the upper extremity as shown at 13, this cap being preferably provided with hexagonal sides to permit thefapp'licationo'f a wrench. rlhefbody `12 is externally screw threaded for engagement with 'the threads formed on'the sleeve 11.
'The cover lis fastened securely in association with the storage tank and locked lagainst displacement by -mea'ns of a lpairof crank rods 14E composed of longitudinallhandles 15 provided on one 'extremity with a reduced extension having a longitudinal r slot tolprovide an ear 16. The oppositeextremities-of these lrodsare provided withangular extensions '17 externally screw threaded -at their ends as at 18. @ne of the crank rods 'lvl -is adapted fto engage a Vscrew threaded `bore formed in the upper portion ot the cover 12 while the other crank rod engages asimilar 'bore lformed in va :suitable lug 19 lforme-di integral with Xthe .upper fportion of ithe tank. lt Vis to be noted that the lreduced extensionsor ears d6 are lformedon'fthe adjacent-ends of Ithe crank rods l'in order that the `same may engage to -form'aligned lodking means as clearlyishowninFigures 3 land l. "When it lis desirable'to lockthe cover the ears are placed in parallel position, theslots being in alignment for the reception of the `bail of a suitable type of lock 1preventing movement of fthe crank rods.

In this type of container the lug 19 is formed on the top plate and the device as previously described suitably mounted thereon.
ln use the device ma7 be readil 'locked against unauthorized removal of the contents or mixture thereof. YWhen it is desired to remove the cover for filling or for any other purpose the crank rod mounted in the cylindrical lug 19 is moved to a position substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis of the tank whereas the opposite crank rod may be readily rotated for the romoval ot the cover. lt is apparent that the device provides compact and durable means for locking covers of this character, especially intended. for use in connection with oil barrels and gasoline storage tanks, preventing unauthorized removal of the contents or the addition of foreign matter thereto.
lt is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same and that various changes asto the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope oi the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. In combination with a cover provided with an internally screw threaded bore, and a lug mounted adjacent the cover provided yWith a similar screw threaded bore, of a pair of angular rods screw threaded on the remote extremities for engaging the recesses formed in the cover and lug, and ears formed on the adjacent extremities for connection of locking means.
2. In combination with a cover having an internally screw threaded recess, a lug mounted adjacent the cover provided with a similar screw threaded recess, oit a pair ot operating rods threadedly mounted in the recesses in the cover and lug, and ears formed on the adjacent extremities of the rods adapted to meet in alignment for the reception of a lock.
3. In combination With a storage tank, a cover threadedly engageable with the said tank, and a lug formed on the tanl, of closure means including a pair of angular rods screw threaded on the remote extremities for enga-ging suitable recesses formed in the cover and lug, and slotted extensions formed on the adjacent ends ot' the rods adapted to coincide in the closed position and engage a suitable lock.
Il. In combination with a barrel, a cover threadedly mounted in the said barrel, and a lug iormed on the barrel, of closure means including a pair ot rods having angular eX- tensions, the extreme ends of the extensions being screvv threaded for engagement with suitable recesses formed in the cover and lug, and a pair of slotted ears formed in the adjacent ends of the rods adapted to engage in parallel alignment and receive therein the bail of a lock.
5. In combination With a barrel, a cover threadedly mounted in the upper portion of the barrel, and a lug formed on the barrel, of closure means including a pair of rods comprising longitudinal handle portions, angular extensions formed on one of the handle portions, the extreme ends ot the extensions being screw threaded to engage screw threaded bores formed in the cover and lug member, and slotted ears formed on the opposite extremities ot the handle portions adapted to engage in parallel alignment for the reception of suitable locking means.
G. In combination with a receptacle having` a detachable cover, fastening means including a member detachably connected with the cover, a complementary member attached to the receptacle and arranged for swinging movement thereon, the inner ends ol the said members being arranged for overlapping engagement and provided With aligned openings to receive therein a locking device.
7. In combination With a receptacle having an opening therein and a cover adapted for threadedly enclosing the said opening; `lastenin, means including an angular member threadedly engaged With the said cover, a complementary angular member threadedly secured upon the receptacle adjacent the said cover, the adjacent ends of the angular members being arranged for overlapping parallel contacting arrangement and having slots formed therein for engage ment of the locking device.
