These, and such other objects as may here inafter appear are obtained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts of our invention which is fully illustrated in the accompanying single sheet of drawing made a part of this specilication and in which:

Figure 1 is an elevation showing the garment buttoned for use, with one cuff extended and the other folded back;

Figure 2 is a fragmentary elevation of the bottom of the garment showing the flap of the garment in open or extended position;

Figure 3 is a enlarged vertical section through the bottom portion of the garment; and

Figure 4 is a plan view of the lining pattern employed upon said flap.

Like reference characters are used to designate similar parts in the drawing and in the specification which follows.

Reference will first be had to Figures 1, 2 and 5. The garment illustrated comprises a back 10 having an extension or flap 11 with converging sides depending therefrom, and either formed integrally therewith or stitched thereto (preferably the latter), and a front of right and left hand members 12 and 13 adapted to button one to the other and stitched at their sides and bottoms to the back 10. A hood 14:, cut from any suitable pattern and secured to back 10 and to front sections 12 and 13, may be made a part of the garment.

Flap 11 is faced on the inside with a sheet 15 of waterproof material, best shown in Figure 6, which sheet is folded at 16 and stitched adjacent thereto to provide a long pocket, such pocket being divided into two smaller sections or pockets 17 and 18, by stitching 19 through the two layers of waterproof material. sions of sheet 15 provide flaps 20 to close pockets 17 and 18. Suitable hems are provi ded by doubling the material at its exposed edges and stitching flat the overlapping portions. A braid or tape 11 is secured about the three unattached edges of flap 11.

As previously indicated, flap 11 is more readily manufactured. separately from the body of the garment and subsequently attaching it thereto, such technique facilitating the attachment of lining material 15 and the formation of the pockets 17 and 18 in the manner herein indicated. When so made, the flap 11 is secured to back 10 by stitching 21, and such stitching may be passed through the lining material 15 in order to securely affix it in position.

For closing flap 11 over front sections 12 and 13 of the garment, a plurality of registering buttons 22 and buttonholes 23 are arranged upon said parts as is best shown in Figures 1 and 2. The flaps 20 may be adapted to close pockets 17 and 18, by the use of buttons and buttonholes, or any other conventional fastening device, such as a snap fastener.

Pockets 17 and 18 are adapted to provide storage spaces for various articles, particu larly additional articles of the childs apparel. Waterproofed as these pockets are, nodamage to the fabric of the coat may result from the carrying of wet or soiled articles and fresh articles may be kept separate from those which have been used. Great convenience is had from providing a carrying device attached and arranged in the manner described.

Flap 11 also provides extra thicknesses of material about the childs feet, thus supplying additional warmth and preventing exposure even should the childs feet slip through the coat front.
