UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.PIERRE SYLVAIN GARIAT, OF ARIS. FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO IATIIE CINEMA,
ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS PATHE FRERES, 0F PARIS,
MOTIONFICTURE APPARATUS.
Original application filed March 15, 1923, Serial No. 635,238, and. in France April 6, 1922.
this application lcd February 29. 1924.
This invention relates to improvements in the device for winding the film upon itself in the receiving chamber of a motion picture apparatus.
The present application is a division of the corresponding application No. 625,238 .filed on March l5, 1923.
According to the invention, a disc rotatably mounted in a receiving chamber atthe lower part ot the apparatus has its face inclined with respect to the portion of the film entering,` the chamber, so as to insure the film to bear upon said disc in order to pro` vide for the regular winding ot the iilm, while a stud carried by said disc makes easier said winding of the film.
r-rccording` to the present invention the said member provided with an inclined tace is constituted by the stud carrying disc or portion of a disc itself.
In the accompanying drawing given by way ot' example:
Fig. l is a side view with partial section of a motion picture apparatus provided with the improved device, according to the invcntion.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the motion picture apparatus with a cross section ot the device according to the invention.
The apparatus shown in Figs. l and 2 comprises a dise or portion ot a disc 50, made of any material, and which carries a stud said disc or portion o a disc is mounted on un aigle i6 und rotates in a circular chamber ai provided in the base oi the apparatus and wherein the portion a4 of the film which has been projected is made to enter through the irate 52. Said circular chamber 51"r and the disc or portion of a disc 50 are ina-de inclined with regard to the portion of film entering` Divided and. Seria] No. 695,919.
the chamber through the gate 52. This inclination may, of course, have any suitable value which even may reach 900, the axis 46 of the eiseassuming in the latter case a vertical position. The suitable angle of inclination will depend Yfrom the kind of' film, size of the apparatus and normal speed of' rotation; it will result in each peculiar case from experiments.
Under the direct action of gravity, the edge of the film is caused. to bear upon this disc r50. The film when moving downwardly, will meet the disc 50 under a certain angle and the turns of film are formed upon the dise. The rotation of the disc by the handle 26 is obtained by the intermediary of the bevel gears 5( and belt 53.
The stud 50 when rotating around the axle 46 bears constantly upon the inner turn of the film and drives in its motion the turns of film already formed in order to make easier the windingl of new turns.
Having` now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a motion picture apparatus a device for winding the film upon itself provided in a receiving chamber for the film at the lower part of the apparatus and into which the gate for the film is adapted to open comprising: a disc rotably mounted in said chamber, the face of said disc being inclined with respect to the portion of iihn enterinpT the chamber, means for rotating.;` said disc und a stud carried by said disc driving' the turns of .tilm already formed upon the disc and mak ingr easier the windinr;` olf new turns.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
PIERRE SYLVAIN GAURIAT.
