SHADE-SUPPORTNG BRACKET.
Application led March 25, 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in shade supporting brackets.
The principal object. of the invention resides in a means :tor adjustably mounting a shade roller, curtains and draperies upon a window whereby the same may be lowered to a position tor admitting; air into a room when the top sash ot the window is lowered 'for venti] ating purposes.
Janother object of the invention is the provision of a means for adjustably supporting the trimming of a window which includes a pair of tracks mounted upon a window casing, and in each o'l' which a trame is slidably mounted for adjustment therealong, and which is locked in the desired adjusted position by suitable co-acting members.
A further object is to provide adjusting shade supporting means which is simple in construction, cheap ot manufacture and easy of operation.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features ot which are hereinafter -fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention in position upon a window.
Figure 2 is au enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the sliding frame member.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view of a slight modification.
Referring more particularly to the drawin g, the reference numeral 10 designates the casing ot a window, and 11 the top sash which is slidable therein. Secured to each of the front vertical sides of the casing is a track 12 which extends upward to a point adjacent the top of the casing and downward a suitable distance depending upon the desired range of adjustment for the support ing means 13.
The means 13 includes a U-shaped member or frame 14 having aligned notches 15 therein adjacent the corners and which receive the flanges of the tracks 12. The bight portion of the U-shaped frame is disposed within the track while the legs extend horizontally therefrom tor supporting a wooden Serial No. 18,285.
block 16. The block 16 is held between the legs by thumb screws 17 and 13 tor removhooks 19 and 2O which may be screwed into the block and which are adapted to support the ends oit the curtain and drapery'rods respectively.
A shade bracket 21 is held in adjusted position by the thumb nut 18 for supporting a shade roller 22. lit will be understood that the means 13 on opposite sides oit the casing are always diametrically opposed to support the shade roller in horizontal align sent at all. times.
For moving the respective means 13 along the tracks 12, ll provide a manipulating rod 23 having a handle 24; at one end, while the opposite end is swivelly connected as at 243 with the lower leg` of the 'trame 11i. The rod is of a length to dispose the handle 2e within the reach of the operator when the means 13 is at the extreme limit of its upward movement. rlhe swivel connection comprises an eye 26 extended from the end ot' the rod, and which passes through a similar' eye 2'? removably carried by the trame. By reason of the swivel connection, it is possible for the operator to grasp both the rods for simultaneously moving both of the means 13, thus keeping the curtains and draperies from sliding along their supporting rods which movement would occur should each of the means be adjusted separately.
For assuring` a positive holding of each of the means 13vin its limits ot movement, l provide a, hook 23 on the rod lior engagement with eyes 29 extending from the track 12. The means 13 are held in various positions ot' adjustment by a binding action between the traine lli and the track 12. rEhe weight of the hangings causes the lower corner ot the 'trame 15 to be forced against the rear wall of the track, while the upper corner of the frame is jammed against the flanges oi the track as shown in Figure 2 oit the drawing. When in this position, the bight por tion ot the :trame is disposed ata slight angle with respect to the vertical longitudinal axis of the track by reason oi, a slight play between the trame and the track. lli/Then it is, desired to move the means 13, the rod is grasped and the trame lifted to disengage the hook and eye and to tree the saine from binding engagement with the track where upon the supporting means may be moved to the desired position.
The invention is primarilyv intended 'for admitting air into a room from the top of a window 'for Ventilating purposes, whereby the trimmings of the window will not tend to ,sluit ofi' the admission of air.
In Figure 5, I lieve shown d Slightly inodiied form wherein the use of tlie Wooden block 16 sliown in the preferred form is dispensed with. In this form of the inven tion, the supporting hooks 19 and 20 are fastened to the top leg of the Ueliaped frame in any suitable manner suoli as shown.
'Vliat is claimed as new is A window shade bracket comprising a tra-ek adapted to be mounted upon a Window easing, u Uelieged. frame member have .ing its legs provided with aligned notelies for the reception oi sai-d track for slide-ble movement thereon, a blo-el; removably supported by Seid ill-shaped freine between tlie legs tliereot3A e. Shade bracket edjustebly supported by said frame, supporting` hooks eX- tending outwardly from Said bleek, a` manipulating member l'izufing,- one end swivelly Connected to said *Ll-shaped frame member, and a bool; Carried by said manipulating member for engagement with an eye adapted to be mounted on the window frame, substantially es and for the purpose speeified.
In tesnmony whereof I alx my signature.
