V COMBINED COLLAR BUTTON AND GRAVAT RETAINING DEVICE Filed Oct. 27. 1925 111115122171" Arllzurfi'fierzzb l-ateuted li aco l4, 132d CQMBIIXTED COLLAR BUTTON AND CRAVAT-RETAINING DEVICE.
Application filed October 27, 1925.
My invention relates to iinproven'ients in combined collar button and cravat retaining devices and the object of the invention is to devise a collar button which will not only serve to hold the collar together and to the hand of the shirt but also serve to hold the knot of the tie up in position after it has been adjusted to the collar.
My invention consists of a collar button having a suitable base, a stern projecting therefrnnn, an. end crossbar provided with upwardly extending prongs, preferably two in number, the button. being otherwise constructed as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure l is a view of the collar with the button fastening it together and projecting through the button holes.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional detail showing the manner the knot of the tie is held in position on the collar button.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of Figure i is a plan and Figure 5 is a side elevation.
l'nthe drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
l is a collar which is provlded with opflaps having the usual button holes, a 'l 3.
l is the band of the shirt having the usual button hole 6 is my collar button as provided with the usual base, preferably round. and having an outwardly extending stem 7 in which is fastened the-crossbar 8 having upwardly extending prongs 9, preferably two in nunr her.
It will, of course, be understood that the tie will. be placed in position around the collar, if it is of the type shown, without being tied. The collar button is previously insertcd in the hole 5 of the shirt band, the collar is then placed in position by inserting and pulling the button holes over prongs 9 and onto stem 7. The tie is then tied in a knot and such knot is drawn up tight to the top of the button.

the collar and then pulled down slightly so that the prong 9 extendsinto the knot of the tie. 1
It will thus be seen that the tie will be held securely in position as will also the collar itself the knot ofthe tie serving to hold the collar button securely in place in the button hole and likewise the prongs help to hold the knot in place as herein before. intimated.
Although I think the crossbar 8 with double bars 9 is a preferable construction for the reason that the knot will be held from canting in either direction. It will of course be understood that the stem may be made with a single prong. -When wing collars are usedthe invention is equally appli cable but in this case it will not be neces sary to put the tie on the collar before the collar is buttoned over the collar buttoni From this description it will be seen that my collar button is of the simplest construction, will not wear the button holes as ordinary collarbuttons will and effectually not only retain the collar in place from unbuttoning but also the tie itself. It may also be used with a bow tie.
W hat I claim as my invention is:
1. A combined collar button and cravat retaining device comprising base, a stem extending outwardly therefrom and provided at its outer end with bifurcated portions having an upwardly extending spicular projection at the outer end 'of each of such portions. v i
2. A combined collar button and cravat retaining device comprising a base, a stem extending outwardly therefrom and provided at its outer end with bifurcated portions forming a crotch like portion acute angular in form and adapted to receive the central portion of the tie and a spicular projection extending outward from the extremity of each portion at each side of such crotch to enter the tieat each side of the aforesaid central portion.
