FISHERMANS KIT.
Application filed December 14, lacs.
My invention relates to improvements in fishermans kits, and has for its primary object a fishermans kit comprising a. minnow bucket, a compartmentadapted to be secured to the minnow bucket in which lunch, fishing tackle or ice may be carried and which is also equipped with means whereby the same can be readily secured to the running board of an automobile.
A further object is to construct a fishermans kit which is provided with a minnow bucket having a removable minnow compartment, which compartment is so arranged that it can be removed from the bucket and floated in a stream of running water thereby assuring the minnows of a constant supply of fresh water.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my device;
2 Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a fragmental section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the detach- 2 able compartment with the lid thrown back and disclosing the interior of the same; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmental perspective view of one end of the compartment employed for attaching the device to the running board of an automobile.
In the construction of my device, I employ a bucket 6 having a solid bottom, sides and ends. Secured to the ends are trunnions 7 to which the bail 8 is pivotally secured.
The bail is provided with a handle 9. The
peculiar way of mounting the handle however can be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. Located within the bucket 6 is abait compartment having a top 10, and a bottom 11. The top 10 is made hollow so as to form an air compartment 12 by means of which the bucket can be floated in a stream and prevented from sinking. The top 10 and bottom 11 are connected together by means of strips or braces 13. These strips are relatively narrow so as to leave an open space which is closed by means of reticulated material 14. This reticulated material is preferably screen and is for the purpose of preventing the minnows from escaping and at the same time permit a free circulation of water through the sides. The top is also provided with an opening 15 which is adapted to be closed by means of a hinged door 16. This door is'also provided with reticulated mate- Serial No. 75,252.
rial 17 and is secured to the top by means of the hinge 18. The door is held against acci dental opening by means of a spring 19, which engages with the inner wall of the air compartment. The door is also provided with a ring 20 by means of which it can be opened so that the minnows or other live bait can be removed when needed. The top 10 is also provided with a bail 21. This permits the minnow compartment to be removed from the bucket and also serves for the attaching of a line to prevent the minnow compartment from floating away when the same is placed in a running stream. The ends of the bucket are also provided with flanges 22 which are secured adjacent the lower edge thereof and preferably midway the width of the ends. These flanges are adapted to engage loops 22*, which are pivotally secured to the lid 23 of the compartment 24. These loops are'preferably formed of spring wire so that when they are passed over the flanges 22. which are inclined inwardly and downwardly, they will grip the same and hold the compartment 24 to the bucket and in order to prevent accidental swinging out of the loops springs 25 are employed. The top 23 is preferably recessed around its edges as at 26 so that the lower edge 27 of the bucket can snugly fit the lid 23 but at the same time it will not project beyond the compartment 24. 7
Between the top 23 and the bottom 11, I preferably inter-pose a strip of felt or similar material 28. The purpose of this strip is to prevent any heat, which may be the case where hot lunch is taken along, from reaching the minnow bucket as it acts as an insulator. This felt also by acting as an insulatorprevents any sweating of the bottom of the bucket due to cold water being placed therein.
The compartment 24 isprovided with a bail 29 which fits into a recess 30. The purpose of this recess is to prevent the bail from projecting beyond the surface 'of the compartment when in folded position. This is clearly shown in Fig. 4. The compartment 24 is also provided with a lock 31 by means of which the compartment can be maintained in closed position. The compartment 24 is also provided with a removable T shaped partition 82. This partition is for the purpose of dividing the compartment 24 into three sections, one of which is designed to hold a vacuum bottle containing a drinkv a wire or cord 36 can be inserted therethrough and secured. The purpose of this is to prevent the accidental loosening of the thumb screws due to the jolting of the machine. Secured to the U shaped members 33 is a pan or container 37. This is prefe ably secured by means of rivets 38 and, in order to eliminate noise and also any damaging of the container or compartment 2-1, strips of felt or other resilient material 39 are placed over the bottom of this pan. The pan 3'? has its ends 40 or at least the central portion thereof pressed outwardly as at n. This outward pressed portion is adapted to receive the flanges 22 in the event it is desired to secure the minnow bucket only to the running board of an automobile and without the use of the compartment 2%. The pan 3'? is also provided with loops 42 through which a strap 43 is placed. This strap is for the purpose of securing a minnow bucket or the minnow bucket and compartment 24 in the pan so that the same can be carried on the running board and without any danger of losing it.
In the event it is desired to carry ice in the compartment 2% a fabric bag 4:4: is employed. This bag will soak up moisture from the ice and also act as in insulator preventing the ice from melting too rapidly. In the event ice is carried in the compartment 25 the partition 32 is removed as is also the pad 28. In this way on long journeys, the water in the bucket 6 can be kept cool and the lives of the minnows in the bucket prolonged.
My device can be used either with or without the pan 87 as the bucket 6 and compartment 2 T can be readily secured together and carried by hand. The compartment 24 may be omitted entirely, if so desired, and the device carried by hand or the compartment 24 can be carried separately. It is also possible to carry either the minnow bucket or the minnow bucket and the compartment 24: on the running board of an automobile.
My device makes a complete and compact tishermans kit, in that it is possible to carry live bait, such as minnows, in the minnow bucket and, without the necessity of carrying a separate package, also to have a compartment detachable from the bucket in which lunch, drink and fishing tackle can be carried. In other words, my device is substantially a minnow bucket, a lunch box and a tackle box, the lunch and tackle box being so arranged that it can be locked so that its contents can not be tampered with and which can be readily attached and detached to and from a minnow bucket itself, and in addition to these features, a carrier is provided so that my device can be secured to the running board of an auton'iobile and be readily transported.
Having fully described my I claim is l. A fishermans kit comprising a bucket provided with a bail, a bait compartment having reticulated sides removably located in said bucket, a compartment located beneath said bucket, and means carried by said (JOHIPLHUHQDt and bucket for detachably securing the same together.
A iishermans kit comprising a bucket provided with a bail adjacent the upper edge thereof, a bait compartment having reticulated sides removably located in said bucket, a compartment provided with a lid located beneath said bucket, and means independent of the bail for detachably securing said compartment to said bucket.
3. A fishermans kit comprising a bucket provided with a bail adjacent the upper edge thereof, a bait compartment having reticulated sides removably located in said bucket, a hinged door located on the top of said compartment for providing access to the interior thereof, means for preventing accidental opening of said door, a compartment located beneath said bucket, and means carried by said bucket and by the compartment for detachably securing the same together.
et. A. fishermans kit comprising a bucket provided with a bail pivotally secured thereto adjacent its upper ec ge, a bait compartment having reticulatedsides removably located in said bucket, an air compartment formed in said bait compartment immediately beneath its top whereby the same is prevented from sinking, a compartment provided with a lid located beneath said bucket, a removable partition located in said compartment, hooks located adjacent the bottom edge of the bucket, and means carried by .said compartment and engaging with said hooks for detachably securing said compartment to said bucket.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
